Wreckage from the USS Indianapolis, which sank 72 years ago after being torpedoed during World War II, was found in the Philippine Sea by the expedition crew of billionaire Paul Allen.

The Indianapolis was hit by the Japanese on July 30, 1945 and sank in only 12 minutes, leading to the greatest single loss of life at sea in the Navy's history. Of 1,196 crew aboard the ship, only 317 survived.

Exactly the Japanese sub captain said the zig-zagging (or lack thereof) would not have made a difference.

The Admirals knew this as well.

The world is burning and Allen thinks this is important. Ah well - it’s his money.

Still, after 30 more years of islamization in the US we will be blowing up WWII monuments - not preserving them.

Not by his crew, they never blamed him.

McVay received hate mail from the families of some of the men lost on the Indianapolis. That, and his treatment by the Navy, left him a broken man.

Initially, Capt McVay declined invitations to attend crew reunions, believing they blamed him for the disaster. He finally relented, and was welcomed warmly by his former shipmates. McVay also found happiness in his second marriage, to a wealthy New Orleans socialite.

But it wasn’t enough. Twenty-four years after the loss of his shop and much of his crew, McVay walked outside his home, put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

Some say he was the last victim of the USS Indianapolis.

US sub skipper Donc Donaho also testified for the defense that zig zagging made no difference. McVay was harassed by family members of his dead crewmembers who blamed him for their deaths. It drove him to take his own life.

I read the account of the Indy when I was ten years old. Horrified and my first inkling that government will sell off its heroes, if it feels it necessary to save face.
