A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

With all the recent focus on the military accommodating transexuals and ensuring that the taxpayers are on the hook for their surgeries and counseling, etc., perhaps we would be better served if the military was allowed to re-focus on basic military operations so that our ships are not running into other ships.
1. Our navy vessels are so powerful and strong that mere collision with a commercial vessel does so much damage that they suffer fatalities???
2. Start firing admirals. Something is “sinking” in our naval preparedness training and even just basic operations.
I hate to say it, but what can you expect from a ship named after that serial, accident-prone loser?

NOTE: THIS SHIP IS NAMED AFTER FATHER AND GRANDFATHER OF THE CURRENT US SENATOR. BOTH WERE DISTINGUISHED US NAVY ADMIRALS. THEY ARE QUITE DISTINCT FROM WHATEVER ONE THINKS ABOUT THEIR POLITICIAN PROGENY.
Do we really think that hi-tech ships that can’t detect and avoid cargo ships actually have the capability of fending off ship killing missiles? The Iranians and Chinese must be paying close attention to this apparent frailty in the US Navy’s supposed Dominic nance of the seas.
