Steve Bannon on 60 Minutes: DACA Will Spark GOP ‘Civil War’ If Republicans Cave
Breitbart ^ | 10 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon warned this week that there will be a “civil war” in the Republican Party if GOP lawmakers cave on the repeal of an Obama-era program that gave amnesty to illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Tuesday that DACA — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — would be repealed with a six-month window for Congress to act. The move served to fulfill one of Trump’s signature campaign promises, but both Trump and Republican leadership have indicated a desire to “legalize DACA” as part of a broader immigration reform bill.

In an interview for 60 Minutes that aired Sunday, Bannon told CBS anchor Charlie Rose that caving on the campaign promise could spell disaster for Republicans and spark a full-blown civil war with its conservative base:

Even the dumbest Republican is politically astute enough to steer clear of this issue. They never passed it in Congress when that jerk George W. Bush was in office, and they never passed it when Obama would have chewed off his left arm to sign it into law.

It will never play well politically to deal with an issue that affects 800,000 illegal aliens while you've still got tens of millions of Americans living with an ObamaCare abomination that the GOP has been promising to repeal for more than seven years.

This is why so many Republicans in Congress are pissed off at President Trump for putting this back in their hands. They don't want to touch DACA at all, even if it means extending it indefinitely through unconstitutional executive orders.

This is how dictatorships get started, folks.

It’s smart politics to leave the unpopular decisions up to a large body of opinionated people.

“I would have voted for it, you know, but it just never got out of committee ..”
“I just couldn’t sign it the way they loaded it up with pork, you see ...”
“I couldn’t support that bill, it was very self-serving to the other party ...”

And this is how the unpopular stuff is supposed to die.
Trump understands this perfectly well.

Or leave the unpopular decisions up to one person.

That's how you end up, for example, with a useless jerk like John McCain criticizing Barack Obama for lifting the military ban on "transgenders" in 2016 ... and then criticizing President Trump for reinstituting the ban in 2017.

If you're a Navy pilot and you've lost four aircraft in your career, you might as well become a U.S. Senator because that's the place where people go when they aren't even good at what they do for a living.

These people are about 400 miles south of useless by any objective measure.

The GOP Civil War started the day that Mr. Trump announced his candidacy.

What is the relationship to dictatorship? You lost me on that one.

Trump handed this back to Congress so that they could develop statute around it, if they so choose.

That sounds like rule of law to me.

It seems to me that the GOP needs to simply quote a democrat every time they are challenged on DACA. Almost every dem leader (BO,HRC,Schumer, etc) is on record as being against illegal immigration.

HRC herself declared that just because get your kid across the border, doesn’t mean they get to stay.

Hold the dems to their own words - hammer the point 24/7!

It’s not that hard folks.

Republicans cave??

What's he talking about?

Its a POTUS EO that Trump can reverse if he wants to.

Does he mean if the GOP in congress does what Trump says and puts DACA into law?

Trump handed this back to Congress so that they could develop statute around it, if they so choose.

Or they can decline to do so, as they have chosen for years.

Meanwhile, these so-called "childhood arrivals" are ILLEGAL ALIENS. They are subject to deportation, an action which is within the purview of the Executive Branch. DO YOUR JOB, MR. PRESIDENT!!!

“Does he mean if the GOP in congress does what Trump says and puts DACA into law?”

Here’s a news alert ... from a week ago.
https://21progress.org/trump-repeals-daca/
“In a Justice Department news conference on Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions officially announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)”
You say President Trump is saying—put it into law? He ended it.
So, odd as it seems, yes. He said to them (the do-nothings who blustered for seven years over Obamacare): “Here you go.” To use tavern terminology, he called Congress out.

RE:”“In a Justice Department news conference on Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions officially announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)”

Correction, he announced that he might terminate it in 6 months, or he might not if congress doesn't act on it.

They are still renewing their DACAs.

I expect them all to run to pass a DREAM act and then stand around slapping each other on the back for a job well done. And then Trump will sign it.
And boy will I be pizzed at all of them when they all do it.

The "dictatorship" is in reference to this situation (among many others) where an elected legislative body deliberately cedes its constitutional authority to an executive who then decides to legislate the matter himself.

I'm not referring to Trump's DACA edict. I'm referring to the original Obama executive order, and the cacophony of complaints from legislators who are saying publicly that Trump should have left it in place.

...an issue that affects 800,000 illegal aliens...

1.2 million now. Want a link? PBS!
Trump’s decision to end DACA, explained September 5, 2017

Where are DACA recipients from?
Mexico is by far the leading country of origin for DACA recipients, with 1.2 million approved applications through March 31, according to the latest federal government data.

800,000 was implanted in people's brains and it needs to change to what reality is. One quarter makes a difference.

I got others if you would like them.
