Offered 'free' laptops in exchange for attending public district for 1 day!

A public school superintendent in South Dakota was being investigated for an apparent “scam” involving local homeschoolers after he offered them a “free” laptop computer in exchange for their attendance in his district for a single day, according to the Home School Legal Defense Association.

The Argus-Leader in Sioux Falls reported the “offer” from Tri-Valley School District Supt. Mike Lodmel was to homeschoolers, explaining he wanted the children to spend one day in public school “and go home with a new laptop.”

The invitation was for Sept. 29, the day the state counts school attendance for calculating the state tax payments that go to each district.

It’s all about the money.

This is another reason why some many schools look to find children that they can brand as ADHD, or some other label.

Lots of money involved - federal money!

Washington Free Bacon money!

It's all about the money..

"The so-called learning disorders have, sadly, become a way for financially strapped schools to make ends meet."

"In many states, schools have become authorized Medicaid providers and funds can be collected in behalf of a child labeled with one of the learning or behavior disorders."

"Illinois had received $72,500,000 in federal Medicaid money in 1996."

WOW!

1996 Illinois received $72,500,000 in federal money ...for behavior disorder labeling.

Lodmel said he consulted with the district’s legal counsel before sending the letter, which offered a laptop, Chromebook or iPad as well as free lunch to home-school kids who attended a Tri-Valley school on the enrollment counting day.

The district’s attempt to inflate its enrollment numbers drew dozens of complaints on a private Facebook group for home-school parents, followed by a sharp rebuke Thursday from the governor’s office, which called the tactic a “scam.”

This is an attempt to defraud the state, pure and simple.

I’m not sure this was designed to defraud the State, simply an effort to live by the rules the State laid out.

The smartest of those who did attend will have chosen the laptops, wiped Windows and installed Linux.

When we were at the SS office, the person in the cubicle next to us (there is no privacy) was telling the clerk all about the travails of the tiny grandson sitting next to her who she is raising. It was like she was guessing at symptoms in order to get him qualified for SS disability benefits.

WTHeck??

Guess how many people are getting SS benefits paid to them to care for “children with autism”. There you will find the ultimate racket.

Yep.... my mom was a bus driver in an Illinois district that had more special ed busses than regular busses [albeit the SE busses were shorter.] She realized it was a racket early on, saw them ruin a lot of good students, was able to warn some parents about the technique the district used which was mainly to target poorer parents since they were the least likely to dispute the judgement of their bought-and-paid-for evaluation doc and the most likely to be attracted by the shameless bribe the district dangled - the idea of having a school bus come to heir door so their kids would not have to walk to a bus stop- and the parents would therefore not have to go and watch them.

Have to give the Super credit. He was honest in the letter that it would provide more state funding for the district. He couched in terms of lower the local tax burden, but failed to note that it increases the state tax burden.

Go to school for a day, get a free laptop. Sorry, my kids won’t visit a governmental indoctrination center.
