On September 6, 2017, Murphy publicly admitted to having conducted an extramarital affair with forensic psychologist Shannon Edwards, after a judge upheld a subpoena for Murphy to be deposed in the divorce proceedings by Edwards' husband Dr. Jesse Sally, who contended that Murphy's testimony would be relevant to Edwards' alimony request.
A report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that Edwards wrote Murphy "you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance...when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child...". To which Murphy replied, "I get what you say ..."

Congressman Tim Murphy (R.Pa.)has resigned amid scandal
The Republican congressman from the 18th District faced a storm of criticism after reports that he urged the woman with whom he was having an extra-marital relationship to get an abortion. Mr. Murphy, 65, has long been staunchly pro-life.
He’s WORSE than the Dems elected to DC to implement their party’s vile agenda. Why? Losers like this campaigned on the promise to implement our agenda. He and others steal their seats through their lies. These are seats where voters chose the Constitutional Conservative agenda. I wish they could be sued for fraud.
This just goes to prove what I’ve always said for years.
Republicans and democrats are both sleaze-wads at times. But when a Republican gets caught - they resign in disgrace.
When a Rat gets caught - they smirk and gloat and often get re-elected despite the scandal.
