The NFL Establishment is taking the knee...
I’m not talking about the violence in the game, I’m talking about the stupid showboating after every tackle or offensive play over 3 yards. That crap didn’t fly in the seventies, which lead to post-play scuffles.
The whole “I just gotta be me” and “I have to keep it ‘real’” was fostered at the U, and has infested the league. Of course, ESPN aided this by highlighting it.
“The good news is today is college game day”.
I haven’t watched NFL football for about five years except a few playoff games and a couple of Super Bowls.
College ball is much better and hasn’t been spoiled....yet.

If just one owner would do what Trump suggested and fire every kneeler, that team would become truly America’s team. They could lose every game and sell out every Sunday. And after every game say “We played hard. We lost. But we still love our country.” Then the team runs around the stadium behind what Dale Jr called “That big ol’ flag”.

True that. Life's too short. I was an NFL fan from 1969 until this season. I shudder to think all I could have accomplished if I had not wasted all those hours watching or otherwise obsessing over the NFL.

They don’t understand why their team has value. They view the sum total of their assets.....team franchise, contracts with players, concession sales, broadcast rights....as the value of their team. They have it completely wrong.
The value of the team is its fans willingness to spend money....a lot of money....on an ongoing basis enjoying watching the team play.
Without this basic understanding, they removed the enjoyment. And so removed any potential growth in revenue. These owners stood with their team in protest. They put the present and future value of their franchises in question.
They should have stood with their fans.
The only true value of a franchise...the fans...have been chased off. They won’t all come back even if they do all the right things from here on.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said Monday that NFL players who link arms and speak out on social issues represent the best of this country, a direct rebuke of President Trump’s remarks that led to 28 teams protesting in one form or another during Sunday’s slate of games.
“Everyone should know, including the president, that this is what real locker room talk is,” said Lockhart, referencing the Access Hollywood tape that came to light last October in which Trump talked of grabbing women by their genitals and later defending it as “locker room talk.”
It all started when Trump said this at a rally on Friday night: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!”
Lockhart, a former press secretary for President Clinton, called Sunday’s protests, “an important day in the NFL and we think a good one.”
Last but not least, they continue to underestimate Trump’s deplorables re backing our our President and smashing his enemies using our $’s as boycotts.
And as for the violence, the NFL did change the rules in 1978, and teams adapted. You don’t see nearly the violence in the league by 1980 that you were seeing in the early to mid 70’s.
Shut up and play football.

The NFL has continuously declined into a league of thugs and miscreants under Goodell.
The owners had better get a commissioner that will clean things up, including banning players who run afoul of the law, and placing players that have past criminal records on "probationary status". Strict adherence to NFL policy, such as respectfully standing for the anthem should be enforced, or the player is immediately disqualified for the game - WITHOUT PAY. Owners in their thirst for championships have turned a blind eye for far too long.
