Twenty-eight years after the United States ended a four-decade World Cup absence with a stunning victory at Trinidad, the Americans' chances for the 2018 tournament in Russia ended on this island nation off the coast of Venezuela in even more astonishing fashion.
Needing only a tie and confident of victory against the world's 99th-ranked team, the U.S. was eliminated from World Cup contention Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago that ended a run of seven straight American appearances at soccer's showcase.

oh, the sports fake news journalists are in mourning.
I say: WINNING!!!

Not that it matters, but I doubt that you can find more than 250,000 Americans who even noticed the team’s issue.

This is a monumental fail of the US soccer team. We’re already in a ridiculously weak conference, competing with countries way poorer and way smaller than us, and we can’t beat the island of Trinidad Tobago? Wow! Heads had better roll!
To: SoFloFreeper
And most Americans don’t care.
Soccer is the rest of the world’s sport.
Not ours.

21st Century Fox and Telemundo paid $2 billion for the rights to broadcast the World Cup through 2026. They must be in crisis mode now.

Time to get our minds off bread and circuses.
Nothing wrong with participating in sports (may I suggest target shooting?), but wasting one's life watching grown men in shorts rolling around in fake agony while clutching their shins is not a good thing.

GOOD. Soccer is for Euro fags. And this will hurt ESPN revenues as well.

True, but an own goal sure didn’t help.

Soccer means less than nothing to me.That's also true of 90% of people who are in this country legally.Soccer is a European and Third World sport...but then Europe is fast becoming part of the Third World so maybe there's no need to mention it specifically.
To: Lurkinanloomin
Well more people attend a USMNT game than a Rams game, that’s for sure. (Ok, so most of the fans root for Mexico)

Soccer is ascending in interest and football is descending in the US. EPL soccer is a ratings hit Saturday and Sunday morning. NFL viewership is tanking.
The fact that the USMNT is terrible doesn’t change that truth.
