On October 7, the Trinity College football team faced off against Hamilton College, but before the teams took the field in Hartford, Connecticut, an announcement was made: The national anthem would not be played.
A technical difficulty with the sound system made it impossible to broadcast the song, and after hearing the news, there were shouts of "no" from both sidelines. For a short while, there was nothing but silence as players stood facing the flag with their hands over their hearts.
Then, both teams started belting out "The Star-Spangled Banner" a gesture that was greeted with applause from fans and shock from the announcer.
"That was awesome," Jake Donnelly said. "Not many tenors on either end of the field here this afternoon, but a bunch of players that absolutely love America and love the national anthem."
He added that it was one of the "coolest" things he's ever seen.
Ethan Suraci, a Trinity College senior who plays fullback, admitted to the Hartford Courant that not everyone singing was in sync, but still called it "truly amazing" to see everyone come together, especially with everything going on in the world right now.
"Our First Amendment allows people to protest," Suraci, a political science major said, referring to National Football League players kneeling. "I think they have every right to be protesting."
In his opinion, the flag is more than "cloth and color," and he explained that he sees it as a "binding force" for our country.
"Even though people disagree with what's going on politically these days I see it as a way to respect those who came before us, who allowed us the freedom to protest and fight for it every day," Suraci added. It's something I hold true in my heart and I know a lot of guys on the team do, too."

... When Colin Kaepernick decided to protest the national anthem by sitting down, he stood out form the rest of the crowd, but in a negative way, as many people saw his behavior as a disgrace to the anthem and the American flag.
In Flint Township one freshman football team stood against this kind of disrespect, and the attention they got was well deserved. Lapeer Lightning football team was informed by the host team spokesman that the national anthem will not be playing this time, so they decided to stand against it and started to sing the anthem without music.
Eddie L. Kindle, Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools Superintendent, said, “Like most schools in the state of Michigan, we choose to play the national anthem prior to the highest level of competition.” Kindle tried to explain that this kind of common decision in many communities was not a sign of protests because they will never refuse to play the national anthem and disrespect America. When they learned that the anthem is not going to be played they decided to stand still and sing it.
Bryan Sahr, the lead coach Lapeer said his team thought there was some kind of problem with the sound system. “We had all lined up on the sideline like we usually do for the national anthem,” Sahr stated. He added, “I’ve been with most of these players for three years now.” “They’re just an awesome group of kids. It makes me incredibly emotional and I don’t usually get emotional.”
These young people understand what it means to be American and will not be swayed by the anti-American sentiment sweeping the country. These young men are standing up for what is right, and the NFL could learn a thing or two from them. It’s time to stop with the divisive politics and stand together because there are bigger problems in the world than protesting the national anthem.
I FOUND disagreement at YOUTUBE with the statement “some kind of problem with the sound system.”

So...the PA system was functional but no one in attendance had a smart phone with the Star Spangled Banner on it that could be played into the microphone? I'd belive that only if this 'technical failure' was discovered at the very last second before it was supposed to play.
Oh no! Athletes stood for the flag and sang the national anthem themselves in leftist Connecticut! Oh no! You know there are some lefties upset over all this.
looks like and white urban high school football team.
We all know it’s total BS.
ummm, why was the announcer shocked that people stood for the national anthem? Did he expect everyone there to take a knee?
The PA system sure worked for the announcer as soon as the anthem was over.
Probably.
Looks like football players to me.
Will the players be punished for their gross impertinence?
righhht. Just don’t expect it to go unnoticed.
I know, first thing they’ll notice is the color of their skin and ignore the story.
It would be great if someone in the NFL would invite both of these teams to sing the Anthem instead of having a lone singer, and then make sure it was televised.
Cool.
Heh, heh, heh...
