WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump vowed on Monday to protect a popular retirement savings program, pledging to leave it untouched in the forthcoming Republican tax overhaul plan.
Mr. Trump, in a tweet, shot down an idea that had been circulating in Washington policy circles and worrying the retirement-savings industry: limiting pretax contributions to retirement accounts.
“There will be NO change to your 401(k),” the president wrote on Twitter. “This has always been a great and popular middle class tax break that works, and it stays!”
But even a few days of chatter showed the concept’s unpopularity, especially at the $2,400 level. By foreclosing changes to 401(k) plans, Mr. Trump again positioned himself in favor of a broadly enjoyed tax break and the “middle class.” Other parts of the tax plan that he and congressional Republicans support would deliver significant benefits to households at the top of the income scale. Exact calculations of the plan’s impact won’t be possible until Republicans release a more specific proposal.

There were two articles in the WSJ late last week on this subject, suggesting the cuts to 401K’s. Never was there a name attached to the suggestions.
Somebody will probably say it was a mistake and “2,400 should have been 24,000”, which it currently is over a certain age.

i think it’s more a matter of the negative nabobs of negative Trumpism Freepers who seize on every rumor, lie, and bit of fake news to trash Trump here. Many are no better than the Dems who use these same propaganda tactics on a daily basis.
it’s done deliberately and not through ignorance, though there are certainly masses here who repeatedly comment as if the “anonymous sources” on which the fake stream media base almost all of their “news” are founts of truth, instead of the liars they really represent.

If simply NEVER trust anything without a source I save myself a lot of stress or grief.
I don’t care where it comes from, if I can’t verify it independently, if there is not a WHO and WHEN, it is bullshirt. Left, right, center, REAL news can be verified.
Anything postulated without proof can be dismissed without proof.

I, and many others, have learned years ago to COMPLETELY disregard ANYTHING the extreme left-wing liberal lamestream media claims. We have seen time and time and time again outright lies posted as headlines.
If you’ve learned that, I’m sure you’ve learned that people have permeated our threads here to lament some bad decision by Trump that was reported with unnamed sources, or no sources at all.
I wish everyone was following your lead on this.
