Hong Kong (CNN)Donald Trump will receive an honor in Beijing not granted to any US President since the founding of the People's Republic of China: official dinner inside the Forbidden City.
When Trump and his wife Melania land in the Chinese capital Wednesday, they will join President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for a tour of the Forbidden City, the historic palace that housed Chinese emperors and their families for almost 500 years.
Trump is expected to dine with Xi inside the Jianfu Palace, although the exact location of the dinner hasn't been confirmed. The building dates back to the eighteenth century and was fully restored in 2005, making it one of the most well-preserved parts of the palace complex.
Wherever he dines in the Forbidden City, Trump will be the first foreign leader to have an official dinner in the palace since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949.

OK< now you’re going to just have to tell us what kind of role. Nothing to give away her identity, but perhaps a hint.
no..I just meant that Ivanka and daughter embracing Chinese learning, dress, etc.. would be significant to them as sign of respect, etc.
Those who know the culture ( I don’t ) might better explain..or I might be all wet in thinking it ;-)
This is about Xi, not Trump.
It is meant to magnify Xi as Emperor symbolically and the US as supplicant state paying tribute.
Oh, that. I get it.
plus 2 scoops of ice cream
These are the people who were raping us during the campaign and swindling us with the worst trade deals known to modern man. Now they're stand-up fellows. During the campaign it was forget State Dinners, we'll give them a Happy Meal. Now it's chocolate cake at Mar-a-Lago and fancy meals in the Forbidden City. My how times have changed.
And how many of those $250 billion in deals are binding and how many are just letters of intent?
“In fact this is a huge disrespect to Obama. “
Nothing to do with Obama or Trump. It is about Xi.
Chinese Communists have never hosted anyone there. In fact they purposely would not. They formerly would have such a dinner, as with Reagan, at the Great a Hall of the People.
This is for internal Chinese consumption and the symbolism of Xi, after recently consolidating power in the Communist state, and the symbolism of a Communist Chinese leader holding a State dinner in the Imperial Palace for the first time ever rather than in the Great Hall of the People is not lost on the Chinese public.
Thanks Duchess...
American burger for both leaders in Japan. No bowing,no sushi.
Then the stop in South Korea. Show of military might with a country we’ve previously supported in war.
Now the impressive reception by the Chinese leaders.
It’s as clear of message by all concerned to the North Korea that we have military power and it appears three allies that surround you.
A country we defeated and help rebuild. A country we helped save from you and rebuilt. And China at least looking us straight in the eye
Imho This is all pure diplomatic genius on Trumps part.
And his mid east trip and it’s diplomatic signals.
Genius. But I repeat myself. MAGA!
But wouldn’t that same concept have been applicable throughout history with Presidents.
That day I never touched another chicken Yakisoba again
That granddaughter performed for the Chinese First Couple when ghey visited the Trumps, not too long after Trump’s innaugeration. I think that was the time Trump launched some cruise missiles on Syria, and also kicked someone else’s butt. I forget the details.
They're probably all just letters of intent. It's a good show though...
“But wouldnt that same concept have been applicable throughout history with Presidents.”
Not sure I understand your question, but I think the answer is yes.
The key is where Xi is hosting the dinner. No other communist hosted any dinner there.
I think it is relevant that it is the US President. But Xi would have hosted Her there also if (horrors) Her had won.
It’s about Xi and his power in China.
It’s a bit of a gamble on his part, not hosting a dinner at the communist symbol of The Great Hall of the People and using the Imperial Palace and all that symbolizes (Xi as Emperor) but that’s an inside politics for China discussion.
I am saying the concept would be true throughout history. So in essence if it was just about chinese people why haven’t they done it before...but I guess you are saying , in essence, it is a perfect storm for the move.
I seem to remember when Soetero landed he couldn’t get off the plane then went out the back way? Anyone have a picture of that one? For some reason my html and screen grabs are not working.
