Cruz pulls support from Moore: Allegations merit ‘criminal prosecution’ if true

Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday withdrew his support from Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore, saying allegations of sexual misconduct should be looked at by prosecutors.

“As it stands, I can’t urge the people of Alabama to support a campaign in the face of these charges without serious, persuasive demonstration that the charges are not true,” the Texas Republican told reporters, according to a Texas Tribune reporter.

“Both last week and this week, there are serious charges of criminal conduct that if true, not only make him unfit to serve in the Senate but merit criminal prosecution,” he added.

“Original, now explain yourself if you can. How do I sound stupid and childish by saying I find the totality of the evidence now lining up against Roy Moore (the five women, Beverly Young Nelson’s press conference, the multiple people from his hometown talking about the open secret that he cruised the malls for young girls, his former co-worker DA about his penchant for young girls, etc..) to be convincing?”

You sound stupid and childish - and more - to be reduced to ad hominem attacks reviling another FReeper as stupid and childish because that person is underwhelmed by your say-so and credulous obeisance.

I think this is just Ted looking at things and then, figuring he better say something to please the constituency, he’s also playing follow the leader, he’s virtually among the last to pull their endorsement from Moore. This is like the Charlottesville riot, he ended up making a statement condemning white supremacy but it took quite a few days to finally get that out.

I agree it’s the law. I agree it’s wrong and creepy.

However, there is no evidence it happened other than accusation and hearsay. It’s 40 years cold.

If this were any other case than a political/media one, the police would commiserate, perhaps, but they would not pursue it.

No prosecutor would even consider the case.

Once upon a time, he was my first choice for POTUS. It’s a good thing he showed his true colors before too many voters got suckered.

This will be dropped after the election. It simply won’t be pursued. There’s nothing to pursue.

Ted Cruz claims he is a Christian. How does he rationalize breaking the Commandment “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness?” I am sorry I ever voted for him! He has outed himself as a total hypocrite and Swamp Creature.

Wow, because I thought Cruz was part of the swamp busting team. I really don’t get this one. How on earth is any of it credible? And does Cruz even see the consequences. If the GOP buckles here they are screwed. Because the Democrats will then use this little trick again and again until they control every Senate seat.

Yes, all these bozos, just did themselves in and the GOP in with trying to take out Moore. The RATS will definitely use this device again and again and again.

Cruz is basically a wind sock, will bend in the direction to help his career. I spotted that long ago during the early presidential primaries. Cruz was on both sides of the immigration issue on recorded video’s. He is a good speaker, which is something I admired, but definitely not a DEPENDABLE conservative.

But I would still vote for Cruz against 99% of democrats.

Yeah right! Harassed sexually FORTY YEARS AGO, never filed a complaint, never did interviews with the willing media, but suddenly after h39 years and 11 months, comes outof the woodwork, 1 MONTH BEFORE ELECTION?

I am not even saying Moore is innocent or guilty, because I have not seen ANY EVIDENCE from either side. He said/she said is not evidence. I am merely questioning the timing of this. Even the cicada’s wait only 17 years to come out of hibernation to have sex and procreate.

If they're true then criminal prosecution is surely justified. And again,if true,he would be unqualified for office even if the statute of limitations prevents prosecution.

However,my gut *and* my intellect tell me that they are very probably false.

I'm no Constitutional/legal scholar but I thought it was supposed to work in the exact opposite way.

"In fact, several of “The Women” have accused him of nothing but asking them on a date basically."

They may be women now, but they were between 14 - 18 and he was in his 30's. Not exactly women. More importantly one of them is accusing him of rape and one of them is saying at 14, he fondled her and placed her hand on his penis. Is that what you call asking him on a date?

What is really disappointing in this whole mess are how many are out there defending him over stuff like this. I'm pretty confident that if these allegations came out with all of the supporting evidence and he had a 'D' after his name you would be ripping into him, rightfully so btw.
