A teenage girl facing criminal charges after she sent an explicit selfie through Snapchat to a classmate says she is not a criminal. Sexting is common among teens at my school, and we shouldnt face charges for doing it. I dont want anyone else to go through what Im going through, the 14-year-old girl said in a statement released by the Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota.

We have a teen girl being branded as a felon for, well, being a sexual being and doing things hormone-driven teens do.
Meanwhile, governments/schools are actively promoting homosexuality, gender "reassignment" and all sorts of perverted stuff that actually IS dangerous for the kids.
This matter should be dealt with by the girl's father. As for the boyfriend who turned around and sent the pics to everyone else, he should be dealt with by the girl's father too... perhaps a good ass-whooping will teach him a good lesson.
Leave it to the American Communist Lawyers’ Union to choose the wrong side...yet again.

You and me both.

If it’s two consenting kids, there should be no charges.
If an adult has enticed her to do it, jump on him/her with both feet, with my blessing.
Sucks for her, but hopefully many other teens will learn something from this.
“doing things hormone-driven teens do.”

More like “stupid-driven teens”.
“This matter should be dealt with by the girl’s father.”

I’d agree if I knew there were a father, a responsible one, in the household. And I’d sure rather all involved got an ass-whopin’ instead of being tagged felons for years on end.
Take her phone away until she’s 18
This is one of the many reasons my daughter refuses to let my 11 yo grandson have a phone.
He can use her phone and I-pad whenever he wants, with her supervision.
His complaint: all the kids at school have one.
Her answer: because I’m not their mother.
She is pretty liberal but puts her foot down in regards to raising my only grandson.
Perhaps her parents (and other parents) will learn a thing or two - exactly WHY does a 14 year old girl need a smart phone? A flip-phone, yes (since phone booths are gone), but why, again, do they need a smart phone.
Hopefully her parents are also held accountable, as ENABLERS.
this should be handled in family court and not have long term ramifications. kids do stupid illegal things all the time and the justice system should not freak out and over react. but for the child’s own safety it should be treated as a series issue with maybe some community service along with something that inconvenient the parents so that they to treat it seriously and don’t say it is a nothing.
Who knows. I hope the judge just reams this D.A.
This is so misguided, it calls to question the fitness of this person to hold their position.
This was wrong, but to make a case against the kid is just plain abusive.
Registered for life or just until she’s 18. “I didn’t know.” only works if your last name is clintoons.
"Parents these days."
Schools/indoctrination asylums these days.
Yes, that would be a very good start. As one fine FREEPER
pointed out this is technology moving much faster than the law. And parents are putting way to much technology into their kid’s hand at ever younger and younger years.
If there isn't a responsible father in the household, then that's a problem of a different sort... one that governments like this aren't going to fix with actions like this.
I think back to when I was a kid... setting off a cherry bomb under a bucket to see how high we can get it to fly would probably land me in Federal prison for 40 to life for terrorism charges or something.
The stupid among them wont live long enough to take over.
If she sent nudies to a minor daughter or son she is guilty
Stop the madness
The one good thing is that since I installed Life 360 on all the phones in the household, I can track their movements throughout the day.
