Girl Charged After Sending Explicit Selfie: ‘I’m Not A Criminal’
WCCO (Minnesota) ^ | December 22, 2017 | WCCO

A teenage girl facing criminal charges after she sent an explicit selfie through Snapchat to a classmate says she is not a criminal. “Sexting is common among teens at my school, and we shouldn’t face charges for doing it. I don’t want anyone else to go through what I’m going through,” the 14-year-old girl said in a statement released by the Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota.

She sounds so "progressive" for a 14-year-old.

Sad.

ACLU-MN says they are in full sport of “Jane Doe,” . . .

Exactly the kind of "sport" the ACLU loves these days. But why call her "Jane Doe"? Why not publish her name and phone number (and the photo) so everybody can get in on the action?

“Sexting is common among teens at my school, and we shouldn’t face charges for doing it.”

She’s making two points here:

1) Many in her generation have few morals and no compunction about sexting. That’s true.

2) She doesn’t believe doing something wrong should lead to getting in trouble. God help us when this generation of kids takes over.

It pains me to agree with the ACLU, but I must say
charging a 14 year old girl with a felony and requiring her to register as a sex offender for 10 years for sending an explicit selfie seems to be way over the top. Her parents should be able if willing to handle the discipline in this case.

Exactly right. Now, what do we do about it?

Charging this girl with felony violations of the law isn’t the answer IMO. Having her register as a sex offender...? Good grief.

I don’t want kids doing this at that age, but it shouldn’t be a crime to send a photo of your own body.

This is the equivalent of the old “I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours” arrangement. Should those kids have been arrested and charged with a felony?

Sometimes the kids have more brains that the adults.

As I said, no 14 year old should be sending photos of their privates. If they are, mom and dad should be responsible for the punishment, not some dumb ass D. A.

Heh. No proofreaders at WCCO news, I guess.

Sorry, you’ll have to get pics from the recipients. Then you’d also get 20 years, but I digress....

Hopefully I will be with him when that does happen.

14 year old girl “sexting”?

Where the hell are this girl’s parents?

And if they’re okay with this?

This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and not being allowed to avert your gaze.

Good. Turn around is fair play.
Some poor slob looking for his 1st BJ gets entrapped by a cop posing as a hooker gets arrested for child abuse and has his life ruined because it was a “Sting”

Anyone downloading the picture, or accidentally viewing it, can be labeled a sex offender for life!!!

I agree, though I imagine her parent(s) are pretty much worthless as responsible human beings themselves. She should get in some kind of legal trouble, along with the parent(s), to teach her a lesson - but wearing a legal scarlet letter for a decade isn’t the way to go, IMO.
