Season 5 is underway already and has been pretty darned good so far. The who is the second most popular show on imbd atm and top ranked on rotten tomatoes as well as being among the top 10 pirated shows in the world.
History seems to now have a genuine hit on their hands, so I hope they continue their greatest “hits” through viking history. England is of course pivotal and we already have met a young prince called Alfred. Confirmed for next season is the varangian guards and the Kieavan Rus.
There should be enough material for at least a season more as has already been confirmed, but I think they could do 1-2 additional seasons without draggings things out.
1066 for one thing... The descendents of all main factions duking it out pretty much in a final battle. Then, the Leif Erikson stuff and America.
But, there is a good deal of story that could be mined from the Varangian guards and particularly the exploits of Harald Haardade. Though that involves conflict with muslims, so who knows how History Channel would approach that.
Also maybe for your interest. The BBC has made a show that apparently is pretty good involving Alfred and the great heathen army with many (obviously) of the same characters...
The Last Kingdom...
The year is 872, and many of the separate kingdoms of what we now know as England have fallen to the invading Danes, leaving the great kingdom of Wessex standing alone and defiant under the command of King Alfred. Against this turbulent backdrop lives our hero, Uhtred. Born the son of a Saxon nobleman, he is captured by the Danes and raised as one of their own. Forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people of his upbringing, his loyalties are ever tested. What is he? Saxon or Dane? On a quest to reclaim his birthright, Uhtred must tread a dangerous path between both sides if he is to play his part in the birth of a new nation and, ultimately, recapture his ancestral lands.

I need to check it out some day, just too busy right now.
Oh, and if you want a Viking laugh and have Netflix you can check out “The Northmen” which is in English so no subtitled needed even though it is a Norwegian production. Picture David Brent from the Office attempting to be a good Viking chieftain.
Here’s a short clip which gives you an indication of the humor:

The Last Kingdom was excellent. My son and I binge watched it.
I agree - looks like a Viking boat with oars.
Geesh guys...don’t get me started on another History show...I’m still waitin’ on the Lagina brothers big discovery. Geez!

Read The Saxson Stories by Bernard Cromwell. The Last Kingdom series is based on these books
“Id really like to see the points/arrowheads they found, that would give us a pretty good idea of the age.”
I’m afraid my expertise doesn’t range past “new” and “old.”
bump for later
