Gun battle among cars near Orlando tourist district leaves 5 wounded
Orlando Sentinel ^

Five people were shot Sunday morning and Interstate 4 was shut down in what at witnesses said was a running gun battle between several cars near the tourist district, Orlando police said.

Officers arrived at Kirkman Road north of International Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m. and found a man shot in the face in critical but stable condition, Lt. Jonathan Bigelow said in a statement.

A witness said people in two cars were shooting at each other while driving northbound on Kirkman, a road that cuts through the northern part of the tourist district.

Several rifle and handgun casings were found on the road, police said.

A short time later, two more victims arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds, one of whom was airlifted to another hospital in critical but stable condition while the other was listed in stable condition, police said.

One car was shot through the window with no victims, police said, while another was found riddled with bullets with “numerous” men still inside.

Inside one of the cars, police said, officers recovered a handgun and a rifle, while another handgun was found in the middle of I-4. Several rifle and handgun shell casings were also found on I-4.

More witnesses described two vehicles shooting back and forth at one another, police said.

Donnie Portillo said he was driving with his family back to New Jersey when their car was hit by gunfire.

"...Orlando, Florida shootings..."

Decades ago they used to typically concentrate their gunfire on unarmed German tourists.

Yeah, remarkable birds the Norwegian Blues. Beautiful plumage, innit?
But don’t disrespect them, they tend to be as fickle as peacocks.

Let’s have a free day on some roads and highways for those who like violence. *Not* those in the prison system but all who want to play “rage.” Pay them but only what they can blow in a party in a secured facility in one night. If they win, the binding contract should say that they must compete in the next event.

I’ve heard of these new self-driving cars, didn’t know they could shoot at each other.

>>It appears that we’ve achieved yet another advancement in autonomous vehicle technology.

The only way they’re selling me on self-driving cars is if I get to control its aggression level. I want be able to dial mine all the way up to Decepticon level.

>>A Florida friend describes Orlando as turned into a hell hole.

My brother lives in an Orlando suburb. He tells me that it has become a Third-world hellhole. I believe him because it has been for a decade. I will do anything to avoid I-4.

Fifty years ago I spent a week in Orlando, during a months-long hitch-hiking trip through the U.S.
It was a sleepy little town a couple of miles off the freeway whose main claim to fame seemed to be Leon’s Fruit, a purveyor of tropical fruits to tourists.

They had good oranges.

Try making a u-turn at an intersection where people are trying to make a left turn to get to Disney World near opening time.

I heard swear words that to this day I still don’t understand.

Well, they do free up the hands for proper gun sighting and reloading if necessary........
