This strategy worked SO well for the Soviets. Counter low productivity by removing incentives for productivity.

Why, oh why aren’t the Chinese, Cubans, North Koreans, Vietnamese, and Cambodians coming to the aid of their socialist brothers in need?

How stupid do you have to be to be a socialist?

Capitalism (with all it’s flaws) works. Socialism doesn’t.

IIRC the running Soviet joke was “we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us.”

Venezuela is another perfect example of what happens when a nation pursues the dream utopia.

The free market is and always will be the only way to go.

I guess Maduro doesn’t expect to be around for long. He’s going to make the shortages even worse.

Unlike Saddam and the Mullahs the Venezuelan police/military will not fire on the protesters who want to overthrow Maduro. Therefore Trump can call for Maduro’s overthrow. His caveat: The people VOTED him in so therefore they are the ones who have to take him out.

Shoppers were happy today.

There will be nowhere to shop tomorrow as the shop went bankrupt.

Memo to Marketers:

If your product can be found on Caracas supermarket shelves, your product is no good.

What is the difference between Nazi socialism and Communist socialism?

No one says real Nazi socialism has never been tried.

We confirmed that the big chains were increasing prices without any justification, because they were doing it for products that were in stock, not new ones...

Wow. Clearly the leftists have no clue about replacement costs, realized expectations, or inventory control. This policy is little different than filling a pot with water, welding the lid on, and then crank up the heat. Everything looks fine...for a while.

And when stores no longer will sell food at reduced prices they’ll just close - maybe Madoro will force stores to stay open but with empty shelves. Why produce food at below cost of what it takes to make it?

Yep. I read an article about that recently. Venezuela has instituted price controls on all common types of bread. So to get around that, bakers have been producing ersatz bread, using odd ingredients.

These fake breads can still be found on shelves. Because nobody wants them.
