Beyond Relief: How the World Failed Haiti (6 year old still-relevant article, w/ Clinton complicity)
Rolling Stone ^ | August 4, 2011 | Janet Reitman

Posted on 01/12/2018 4:40:27 PM PST by DoodleBob

...In the midst of such suffering, only a fraction of the money devoted to Haitian relief has actually been spent. This May, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported that of the $1.14 billion allocated by Congress for Haiti last year, only $184 million has been "obligated." In a letter to the Obama administration this spring, 53 Democratic members of Congress blasted the "appalling" conditions in the refugee camps. "The unprecedented relief effort has given way to a sluggish, at best, reconstruction effort," said Rep. Barbara Lee, who is demanding an accounting of how the relief money is being spent. There is, she said, a "lack of urgency on the part of the international community."

As the relief effort has dragged on for well over a year, virtually every actor involved has blamed the others: U.S. aid officials pitted against Washington bureaucrats, U.N. agencies against private aid groups. Some veteran insiders blame a new breed of technocrats who, with little to no experience in development, have descended on Port-au-Prince armed with bold theories and PowerPoint presentations, as if the entire country were a case study from Harvard Business School. Others say the goals were too lofty, the plans unrealistic; maybe Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, was simply too damaged to be fixed. Or perhaps the very idea of fixing Haiti at all is a flawed concept, revealing not only the limits of Western humanitarianism but the folly of believing that any country and its problems are ours to set right.

Amid all the finger-pointing, however, nearly everyone taking part in the relief effort is quick to place at least some of the blame on the Haitians themselves.

I came across this bit of history in reviewing Obama's MLK Proclamation from 2010, i.e., his first after inauguration, wherein he implored the good citizens of America to help donate to the Haitian disaster relief effort. Of course, Americans responded as we usually do - with compassion and money - and, sadly, that was all squandered.

Naturally, the Clintons figure prominently in this fiasco. Frankly, I never knew that Sec. Clinton chose Cheryl Mills to head up the State Department's Haiti Task Force. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that things didn't work out for the benefit of Haiti.

If President Trump uttered s-hole yesterday, it would appear Rolling Stone would likely have been in agreement...in 2011.

Well, when you worship Satan and continue failed African collectivism, you'll continue to be poor and eating dirt cookies.

Meanwhile, the DR is relatively prosperous and their women and beaches are better.

Haiti was a money laundering scheme for the Clintons. They left it worse than they found it while enriching themselves.

Years ago I saw a picture of the border between Haiti and DR in National Geographic; it was an aerial shot, and the contrast was stark: a straight line with lush vegetation on one side and practically desert on the other. The article explained that as Haitians cut trees for firewood they never bothered replanting anything.

Haiti has been a sovereign independent nation for 213 years.
How long are they going to need aid from the rest of the world
before they get their s#!%hole together?

I have zero compassion for Haiti. They have a population of approximately 10 million people and yet have received billions of dollars from countries like the USA. They insist on electing corrupt leaders who rob them blind. You could give them another billion dollars and they would still be back where they were a year later.

I remember someone posting that picture here on FR about the time this article was published.

Breathtaking, to say the least

a Christian who did relief work in Haiti used to post here. I cannot remember his name, just that he is another well known Freeper name I don’t see anymore.

He talked about the inability of Haitians to care for themselves even in the basic ways. There was just not a lot of firepower. His take away is that there are always those who need to be cared for. My take away? Haiti needs huge amounts of permanent birth control.

“It is an aerial view of the border delineating Haiti and the Dominican Republic; on one side are parched “bare-skinned” mountains and on the other a blanket of verdant forest. This now infamous aerial photograph of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic appeared in National Geographic in 1987.”

This was decades before the earthquake excuse presented itself; incredible.

A friend (American) who lived in Kenya both before and after independence described how blacks had to learn how to use telephones and such; they have problems, but considering Haiti had a 150 year head start on them the Kenyans did OK.

All the Haitians with firepower left the island years ago. I had a great friend who was a Haitian and world renown in his field. He used to say that he would always kiss his family’s feet for taking him out of Haiti.
And he never wanted to go back.

now, now, according to Billy & Hilly...Haiti is a splendid paradise and according to She-Who-Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda-Been-Queen, Trump is ignorant and racist....they’ve been busy tweeting.

Haiti was a money laundering scheme for the Clintons. They left it worse than they found it while enriching themselves.

This is utterly fiendish. An earthquake devastates Haiti. The Clintons swarm all over the carnage and pick it clean.

Years later, Haitians start protesting and chanting “Down with Obama” and carried “Obama Terrorist” banners in response to allegations that the Obama Administration facilitated fraudulent elections.

THEN, the Clinton/Obama lackeys in America say "see how bad it is there? The ONLY humanitarian thing that can be done is to let them all in."

Wouldn't it be justice, if the Dems got their way (perish the thought) and Haitians entering the country became Republicans? Indeed, there was a view that Haitian-Americans may have helped Trump win Florida.

Go read the book “The Serpent and the Rainbow” and you will understand how Haiti is simply unsalvageable by outsiders ( or probably by insiders!) Any useful change will have to come from within all outsiders do even if they have the best of intentions is make things worse.

I’ve met some nice ones as well; real contributions to this country. They often move here into “black” areas, but teachers love them because they have intact families and really focus on education.

Clinton and his little friends in Haiti.
Frank Giustra (right) a Canadian mining billionaire is eager "to help" the downtrodden Haitian victims.

Scathing reports of the Clinton Foundation crimes in Haiti emerged.

Haitian Americans picketed the NY offices of the Clinton Foundation. They knew the real story....earthquake-ravaged Haitians saw none of the US govt's $10 billion aide package.

The tolerant compassionate types in Hollywood, the Media, Government Officials and Clinton Foundation donors remained completely silent.

Like organized crime......they had taken the "Oath of Omerta."
