Shutdown fight turns ugly as both sides dig in

Schumer: Negotiating with Trump 'like negotiating with Jell-O' Autoplay: On | Off Republican and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill lashed out at each other on Day One of the government shutdown Saturday, trading barbs and casting blame as a resolution to the funding impasse seemed nowhere in sight.

The rhetoric took a harsh turn, with Democrats complaining that President Trump is an erratic, unreliable negotiating partner and Republicans bemoaning Democrats’ intransigence over what the GOP sees as unreasonable immigration demands.

“Both sides are dug in. … I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re here tomorrow,” Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) told The Hill after huddling with fellow House Democrats in the basement of the Capitol.

Both chambers are in session Saturday — a rare weekend workday when many lawmakers were griping about risking vacation plans and overseas trips. But no votes are scheduled to reopen the government as the sides continue to air their grievances in press conferences and on cable news shows.

With neither Republicans nor Democrats willing to budge, congressional leaders let the insults fly on Capitol Hill and it increasingly looked like the shutdown would run into the work week, furloughing hundreds of thousands of workers.

The Schumer Shutdown begin on Monday - where 1000s of Govt drones tale time off - with pay.

It will be interesting to see who blinks first.

I’m betting it will be the Dems.

pray for a extended ‘shutdown’ - DJT will easily cut costs 10-15% and the Feds will be cash flow positive. Carl Ichan & His buddies have a plan on exactly how to achieve a budget surplus with nary a hitch.

Get ready for gnashing of teeth and wailing of their womenfolk from the swamp creatures.

Never get tired of winning

The fact that the men-in-black get back pay after a shutdown seems to be a given.

But is it? Perhaps Trump will turn the screws a bit and say he’s reconsidering that policy and may not sign a bill that provides back pay...at least for the ones who don’t work (obviously essential people who work deserve to be paid).

Could make things very interesting.

Schumer has never dealt with a businessman before. He’s used to throwing a little perk or money around and buying what he wants from politicians.

Keep it shut down, Dems, it will be great for you!

Time to define the 7 stages of shutdown.

First there was looming, then blaming, now it’s ugly fighting. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Schumer is used to yelling "boogity boogity" to Mitch McConnell and watching him flee in terror.

There’s no way in hell the Democrats are going to have the government shut down while President Trump is giving his State of the Union address on the 30th.

“Nuclear Yertle, Nuclear!”

It’s politically beneficial to POTUS and the Republicans to let this shutdown drag on.

How about paying the military and federal employees in scrip fully exchangeable for US currency by the bearer once the budget is passed.
