How Republicans Gain Seats This Year
American Thinker.com ^ | January 22, 2018 | Howard J. Warner

Daily reports by the media express the likelihood that the Republicans will lose seats in both Houses of Congress. They point to losses in Alabama, Virginia, and Wisconsin by Republicans as proof that Donald Trump is dragging down the party. Trump's poll numbers are offered to demonstrate his unpopularity. These numbers are questionable, to be sure, as Democrats are often over-represented.

Clearly, these polls demonstrate how Trump's personal style rattles many. They reflect the constant negative press reports, which do not recognize his impact upon our national economy. Routinely, the off-year elections will cost the party that occupies the White House seats in the Congress. Yet there is a way to ensure that this effect is minimized or reversed.

The Republicans must draw a stark contrast with the Democrats. The best way to do this is to put together legislation that makes the reduction in the personal tax rates (just enacted at the end of 2017) permanent. Bringing this legislation forward will draw a direct line that any Republican can support and run on. The public will gladly support this in most states. The few exceptions, such as New York and California, are already a lost cause for gaining any seats.

Many Republicans from these states are planning on retiring (so far, a total of 30 have indicated this desire), which will likely put pressure on Republicans to hold their numbers. They need good and thoughtful candidates to run for office.

In the Senate, it is possible to gain seats, as more Democrats are up for re-election. Many are in states that supported Trump.

Minnesota’s Frist District which covers southern MN including Rochester, has an open seat this year. The current Representative is Tim Walz. He is a Democrat. Tim has announced that he plans to seek the governorship which is open this year. The entire southern tier of counties went for Donald Trump in 2016, with one exception - Olmsted county where Rochester is. But Clinton only carried that county by less than 6%.

I think it is possible with a good GOP candidate to turn that seat red.

A lot depends on the candidate.
Most conservative that can be elected.

The (Globalist Old Party)GOP will run a bevy of RINOs again making the job of holding HOR majority so much harder. If they would just run MAGA candidates it would be a shoe in that the Republicans would hold. But the GOP will never learn and now that Bannon seems to have been tamed they are breathing easy and readying the RINO charge. Free Traitors™ all the way around everyone!

They need to be clearly on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.

That is why Trump won, that is how the GOP could win.

Republicans voters always talking about gaining seats (or not losing them) reminds me of Browns fans always talking about draft day and having a good draft. It’s comical. We rarely ever see any action. It’s always hope and promises. It’s always something down the road. It’s always talk about future strategy.

The time to deliver is NOW

Yes, the time to deliver is now because if we lose the House all the important work of uncovering Deep State corruption will grind to a halt and be undone. All the progress President Trump has made will be halted or undone.

It’ an easy win if the Pubbies do all they can to emphasize how RAT candidates voted re the Dreamers, chain migration and the lottery issues. Build the wall and do it this year without fail and the 2018 election will be another disaster for RATs.

What would the democrats run on?

There is not a single issue which they can comfortably run on and win on, except on promising free stuff from government.

I think the GOP loses seats in the House; maybe enough to lose control and maybe not. What concerns me is that for the Democrat Senate seats representing the best chance for flipping the Republicans either can’t find name candidates to run or are engaged in self-destructive, total war primaries. The GOP might pick up some Senate seats but not as many as they could or should.

By the time elections roll around most Americans will be enjoying the Trump/Republican tax cuts. I think we gain in both the Senate and the House.

Steve Forbes was on Varney & Company a couple of months back and advised Republicans to keep running on more tax cuts.

I have to admit it makes sense to do so.

More money in our pockets and the people know the democrats would have blocked this.

Now add in the arrests that hopefully will start happening and the republicans should win most every seat.

I think the Republican will gain seats in the Senate and hold the House. I think you might see both NH district go red and you might see 2 pick ups in Connecticut. (The 2nd and the 5th).
