For the sake of accuracy Nixon was never impeached, he resigned to avoid impeachment. When William Jefferson Clinton was impeached but not removed from office it was correctly reported that he was the first ELECTED president to be impeached but now many people erroneously believe that Clinton was NOT impeached because he was not removed from office while they erroneously believe that Nixon WAS impeached even though he actually resigned from office before he could be impeached.

You are right.

What I meant was many Republicans let the impeachment proceedings that led to Nixon’s resignation go forward.

The Republicans did not fight back against the impeachment efforts.

He resigned when all signs seemed to indicate that he was GOING to be impeached.

Bob Woodward recently said that if Fox News had existed in 1972 Nixon might have survived. I think he is right. The nonstop media onslaught against Nixon eventually convinced most Republicans of the day (who were mainly moderates) to turn on the guy.
