I’ve got news for you, Mr JournoList - the R’s were never Tea Partiers to begin with. They love financially raping the taxpayers and future generations with their profligate pork and spending and corruption schemes just as much as the Rats do.

I watched a rerun of the whole Rand Paul speech on CSPAN. If that had been the message he sent during the primaries, he'd be President today. (instead, he got complicit with the political elite distaste for Trump)

He explained the tax vote. He's a small gov guy. The more money we have and the less the feds have, the better. He talked about a crazy system where waste is not tackled as part of the approval process. He talked about the insanity of some of our global meddling and wasted projects. He talked about what the US gov should be doing, according to the government as it's supposed to function. He expressed great concern about the obscene deficit and the hypocrisy of 'pubs who don't seem to care now that they're in control.

It's a real good speech. Except that the NY Times obviously didn't even bother to hear Rand Paul's explanation for the tax vote, the article is spot on. FWIW, if the Rand Paul who gave that speech has matured enough to do so and is the one who shows up and runs for President (established third party?), I'd support his endeavor.

The New York Times has been declaring the Tea Party dead since 2010. Yet, the Tea Party continues to register about 20 percent approval in surveys. In contrast, #MeToo registers about 10 percent in surveys. And, whatever happened to Occupy Wall Street?

Trump sent a budget that got to balance in the five-year time frame of the current budgeting process. So, we know what we would do if we had the votes. As it is, we don’t have the votes. Our majorities are thin and there are many within the caucus who are moderates on the budget. This is the nature of democracy. It’s always a tug of war. We’re inching the rope to our side. That doesn’t mean we’re losing. That’s what winning means.

Leftists concern trolling about lack of spending restraint that they oppose and have successfully blocked under continued threat of government shutdowns.

Don’t worry my fellow deficit hawks. The economic growth will fill some of the hole. A quick injection of taxes on repatriated money will make things good in the short term. And if there is less and less need for welfare programs; no need to spend what is budgeted. Return the requirement to work. Expanding jobs into the black communities. Kicking out the illegal aliens on welfare.

He’s pointing out that the Republicans only care about deficits when a Democrat is in the White House. Left unsaid is that the Democrats only care about deficits when a Republican is in the White House.

Tea part has been Trumped...we just want a funtioning constitutional republic...the only one thinking about it is the mainstream media and idiots like this person. It is their projection if they say the Tea Party is dead somehow they think they have one good chase the red. Go kitty go kitty find your litter pan. Trump is still going to get his things done while you were distracted writing stupid stories like this.

Doesn’t really matter. They have no idea what is going on. The correct statement would be, “For the Tea Party, the Republicans are over.” The people who elected Trump — and those who are seeing the light now — will be primarying a lot of the Establishment Republicans.

Once again, the media tries to "call the code" on the Tea Party when a bunch of limp-wristed spine-deficient RINOs show their true colors.

The Tea Party is not dead. And now, we have a whole slew of new targets.

While I am not thrilled with the spending jump, I am happy they broke the 10 year disaster of passing bulk spending continuing resolutions. The military in particular was taking it on the chin.

To those complaining about the death of the tea party. Wasn’t the tea party ‘taxed enough already’, and didn’t our elected officials just take a whack and high taxes with a massive tax cut and overhaul? Sound to me like the Tea Party is finally getting legislative results after 8 years of wins a the ballot box.

Carl, Carl, Carl,

The Tea Party is just getting started. Who do you think put Trump in the WH?

So sad that you are so blind.

Sincerely,
Tea Partiers, Conservatives, Patriotic Americans.

The Tea Party can massively change things this November and untie Trump’s hands and send McConnell and Paul down the road.

It's not over until we say it's over Mr NY Times...

* I still go to meetings
* Yes the ranks have thinned ( other locals started up to cut down on their drive times ).
* And, as it matured and folks ran for office, others just went back to their lives like they wanted too, and be left alone from Obama's intrusiveness.
* But do you think the spirit has died Mr NY Times? Not in a million years.

Many at the Tea Party I attend were melancholy and doom and gloom about Candidate Trump. Before the election ( Aug / Sept ) they had an open mic night as part of this discussion ya or nay or on the fence about Candidate Trump. Well it sounded like Eor. So I got up and told them you don't see it, he is gonna win in a landslide and I gave my reasons why, I went on for about 2 & 1/2 minutes with passion and conviction. I saw a few faces change and a glimmer of hope. On the way out a couple of gents stopped me and thanked me and one relayed a story about a pole taken at a "plant where they make big things in MI" shall we say and the rank and file voted 60 / 40 and the 40 was for she who shall not be named. That sealed it for me, then I knew he'd carry MI.

Mr NY Times ought to get out and meet some of my friends that whilst they never been to a Tea Party meeting are Tea Party to the core and all voted for him in the Primary, and this is on top of those that go to organized meetings.

President Trump became our voice, a linkage to Palin, Savage, Buchanan and Reagan, to hearken back to Reagan, he payed for the microphone and will not be silenced, and by extension neither were we. Finally.

A huge half truth.

The Dims love to spend money (the domestic spending they demanded), and the RINOs caved in to the Dims spending demands to avoid a shutdown. The situation was, from the Dims - either agree to OUR domestic spending demands, or we will again force a shutdown. This time Trump, McConnell & Ryan didn’t have the gonads to force the Dims hand. Now they have the Dims spending demands set for two years AND they got no Obamacare killing item in the resolution bill.

The NY Times calls this the end of the Tea Party. In fact it may mean the Tea Party is reborn.
