House Republican leaders are weighing further steps to force former top White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon to answer investigators questions in their probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election including potentially declaring him in contempt of Congress after a Thursday interview they called frustrating. Bannon came to speak with the House Intelligence Committee under a subpoena the panel issued on the spot last month, when he refused to answer questions related to the transition period and his tenure in the White House. The interview came after Bannon met with investigators in special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs probe on Monday and Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the sessions.

Wasn’t Eric Holder in contempt of Congress? Who cares?
They hate BANNON. Watch for growling and gnashing of teeth.
The problem is, in the real world, Contempt of Congress carries a maximum penalty of having the Sergent at Arms “Fart in Your General Direction.”
Does Congress have the constitutional power to compel testimony?
“Does Congress have the constitutional power to compel testimony?”
Well, they reportedly have a Congressional Jail somewhere in the Capitol, but I don’t think they ever use it.
If Congress issues a contempt citation, does the recipient lose his/her right against self-incriminatin?
My guess is. no.
Does “Contempt of Congress” mean one holds Congress in Contempt?
In that case, I am guilty
LOL. Not sure it relates to their power to compel testimony though.
I’d take the 5th before any of these witch hunts, having done nothing.
When you mouth off like.Bannon did dont be surprised when youre called to testify.
CONgre$$ is clueless, rudderless and hellbent on ignoring the reality that they are a laughingstock and a bunch of laggards..
Nothing much good comes out of the swamp the last 100 years. Oh, you get your tax cuts occasionally but in the end, they pretty much just sit on their behinds and legislate gibberish to feed the legal breeds and court systems, other than that and pretending to look out for our national interests even while we are obviously under attack both as a nation and a peoples globally, what have they done for you lately?
They certainly can not make a decision overnight on anything. Investigations drag on for years, agencies budgets continue to balloon, the rights of citizens are more and more limited than ever, intrusions into every facet of our life seem to be an obsession for many, Oh, there a few that get it and fight the good fight but there are not near enough to turn the tide, only to plug holes in the dikes of freedom and liberties that are gradually eroding away.
Trump is a stopgap, preferable over Hillary , but what does that say about us? What has happened to the best and brightest amongst us, that do have clues and would take actions that could stem the bleeding and turn this ship back to safety and not out into the maelstroms the world presents today, many of them fostered by misguided policies and belligerent politicians that listen to no one, most specifically after they get elected. They go tone deaf. They hide behind the office and protectors of the crown, their counsels are lobbyists and kingmakers, their acts and actions are anything but transparent.
So who do we look to? Well, gee, maybe social media has some answers for us. It certainly seems to have answers for a significant chunk of the population and serves as a toolset to add a whole new view of things, albeit some impulsive and some outright scandalous in nature.
But Hey, its just mankind, uhh personkind finding itself , right?
So what does a charge of contempt of congress mean. Obviously it’s executive privilege or perhaps even the 5th amendment.
Bannon should do what they let everybody in the Obama administration do. Ask for immunity, proffer nothing, then tell them nothing. Come out clean with Congress as the sin eater.
Congress gave up its ability to punish contempt of Congress long ago. It’s handed over to the DOJ where it’s a misdemeanor.
You are correct, Eric Holder was ruled in contempt of congress and nothing came of it...he’s even contemplating running for office. What better way to stay out of prison.
It used to mean something, but that was back in a time where there were statesmen and a concept called “honor.”
