Jury finds Democratic state Sen. Carlos Uresti guilty of 11 felonies, including fraud (TX)

SAN ANTONIO — The courtroom was silent and thick with anxiety Thursday morning as the judge’s deputy read the verdicts: “Guilty,” “guilty,” “guilty” — 11 times over, and on all felony counts.

State Sen. Carlos Uresti sat stone-faced, his gaze directed at the deputy, as he heard the ruling that throws into question his two-decade career in the Texas Legislature and opens up the possibility of years in federal prison and millions in fines.

I posted this because practically every other news report either fails to tell you that Sen. Uresti is a Democrat or buries the fact deep in the story.

Props to the Texas Tribune for mentioning this in the headline like they would if it were a Republican convicted of fraud.

That is so shocking for it to be in the title, I almost overlooked it.

The only comment on the web page notes the Tribune mentioned he was a Democrat as if that was a shock. My local radio station is reporting this on the half-hour but never tell you the man’s party.

I don’t live in San Antonio so I cannot tell you. The area has several military ties so it is more conservative than you might think. Then again, they elected a Castro for Mayor not long ago.

“The courtroom was particularly packed for three days of testimony from Uresti’s former legal client Denise Cantu, who lost most of the $900,000 she invested in FourWinds. Cantu — who said she had an affair with Uresti — won that money with his legal representation in a wrongful death suit after her son and daughter were killed in 2010 car accident.”

So this guy as her attorney, won her $900k in a wrongful death suit, then he ‘’screws her out of the money! “ Then for good measure, just literally screws her. What a stalwart guy! Attorneys are bad people who use their knowledge of the law to get rich abusing ordinary people. I guess that goes double for a “Mexican” lawyer. Hope he goes away for twenty years.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

snip.......
Senator Uresti represents almost 800,000 people in District 19, one the largest
geographical legislative districts in the United States. District 19, which covers
more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two
international ports of entry, eleven state parks, 51 school districts, 2700
miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells in both
the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin. The district is larger than 12 states
and 82 Nations, and contains over one third of the Texas-Mexico border.

Living in Texas, this is NEWS TO ME. Never heard of the arrest or trial. Thankfully it’s posted here.

For those who STILL think is unbiased (or even not blatantly biased), just ask yourself if the guy was a REPUBLICAN, would the story have been spiked like this?

Here’s a few articles that were carried today in the Texas media.
I suspect it is more localized to the San Antonio, Rio Grande region. JMO.

And how about another pool to see who can guess the day that John McCain will leave us for Hell?

If we did the latter, every liberal blog, blogger and fake news site would crucify us and Jim Rob.

Thanks, still, with 31 Senators (I think), it is a HUGE DEAL when one of them goes south. If it were one of the 150 House members, then it wouldn’t bother me nearly as much.

Seems like the Melendez case, but at the state level.
