SWAT Officers Who Rushed to Scene of Parkland Shooting Without Permission Have Been Disciplined

Two Miramar Police Department SWAT team members, Det. Jeffery Gilbert and Det. Carl Schlosser, were off duty and training at Coral Springs when they learned of the shooting at nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month, where 17 people were killed.

Instead of treating the two men as heroes, the SWAT's unit commander informed the two men that they had been temporarily suspended from their duties. They were unwanted, you see.

“Effective immediately you have been suspended from the SWAT Team until further notice,” wrote Capt. Kevin Nosowicz, the unit’s commander, in a Feb. 22 memo obtained by the Miami Herald through a public records request. “Please make arrangements with the training department to turn in your SWAT-issued rifle.” (Miami Herald)

Pat Franklin, a retired Miami Beach police detective, offered further explanation for the disciplinary action.

"You don’t want to let those guys loose into something that’s chaotic where they might take inappropriate action," he noted. "It is prudent to have them stand down unless there is a plan.”

Napoleon’s saying: “I have never had a plan of operations.”
Therefore no plan of operations extends with any certainty beyond the first contact with the main hostile force.

Clogging the air during an incident that you are enroute is the lame thing. The air is reserved for the guys already there. At least in modern departments.

I don’t know what department that you work or worked for, but I can guarantee you that if a RMP leaves the Bronx, to go help out a Yonkers PD unit that’s near the line, without calling it in to Central, they’re gonna get jammed up. You want to respond? Fine. Not arguing with that, but you need to let someone YOU work for know, whether it’s the Desk Sgt, Patrol Sgt, Tour Boss etc. Somebody in Miramar needs to know where their people are at.

That is a heavy duty example of police thinking of the “east coast” philosophy.

Yep.

Wonder why the BCSO did not go in? Wonder no further.

They apparently do not expect their officers in that area to think and respond.

They expect them to play "mother may I?" with people who are not there.

When you don’t work for that agency, you better damn well let someone in your agency know you are rolling. I didn’t say they were freelancing, I said that you just can’t have neighboring agencies respond to each other’s calls, without letting their commands know they are going.

"It is prudent to have them stand down unless there is a plan.”

Gonna develop and implement a plan in less that 3 minutes? That's all it took for the shootings.

they took their guns - but did did they leave them the standard issue sticks of chalk - for assessing the aftermath?

Question: these guys were off duty, on their own time. Are they not allowed to act in times of public danger as private citizens?

Yes, you did.

I am going to repeat this one more time. They were with the guys they were training with.

I assume that as SWAT responding to an active shooter, they would have arrived at the school, left their rifles in their cars, and reported to the on-scene commander, then man cowering behind a pillar. The report doesn’t say what they did, but I would expect them to check in with a brief announcement: “Trained Miramar Police Department SWAT with long rifles and gear in our cars, ready to assist if needed.”

Unless they were laughing at the on-scene commander for wetting his pants, of yelling at him for allowing children to be murdered while he cowered in safety, I don’t see how that could lead to problems. The idea that anyone would object disgusts me. They were not on duty, so they were not removing resources from their jurisdiction. What could go wrong . . . other than saving so many children’s lives that gun grabbing leftists lose the Reichstag-fire/Gulf-of-Tonkin/false-flag they dreamed of. I don’t think of this mass murder as a preplanned setup, but the post-attack response looks incredibly scripted. I wonder how early the thugs on the left stepped into their script.

It doesn’t matter. Look at a pursuit scenario. Agency A is chasing suspect vehicle, Agency B responds without letting either their agency or Agency A know they are coming, and Agency A’s unit and B’s unit collide because they don’t know the other is there. Also, if I am a Boss and responsible to know where my cops are and what they are doing, somebody better let me know they are leaving their post and why, especially if they are leaving their jurisdiction. Because when something happens and I’m sitting in front of IAB, I better have a damn well good answer. It’s basic Academy stuff.

“It is prudent to have them stand down unless there is a plan.”

Wouldn't it be prudent to have a plan BEFORE the bullets start flying?

And I’ll repeat this. If you are responding to an incident outside your jurisdiction, you have a RESPONSIBILITY to let your command where the hell you are. This isn’t debatable.

The next question to the retired Miami detective should be, when did you retire?

The old doctrine was wait outside and wait for the cool-guys with black velcro and rifles to show up.

That changed years ago. The accepted doctrine, all over the country is: if you hear gunfire, you go in. Especially is there are 4 of you. But, the generally accepted tactic is a single officer response. History has shown that scumbags, will either kill themselves at the first sign of the police or give up. First and foremost, drawing attention from defenseless victims and then ending the action.

The retired detective is a moron. Handpicked to justify the discipline and cover for the cowards form BCSO.

Or at least made a call to someone in Miramar while in route to let them know they were responding.

Your scenario is not what happened.

Here is one that is closer. An officer from Agency A is riding along with officers from Agency B. Agency B gets a call that there is an emergency please respond. The officer from Agency A are suppose to call his boss and ask him for permission to help the guys he is with at that moment.

And I will repeat this.

They were with the officers they were training with.

And they were off duty.

So no.

And that is not debatable.

If Officer B is riding along with Officer A, then someone already freaking knows where he is.
