Police in Austin say "similarities" between two deadly package explosions in Texas' capital city this month lead them to believe the incidents are related. The latest incident, reported Monday morning, killed a 17-year-old boy and wounded a woman, Austin police chief Brian Manley said.
The boy died at the scene and the woman in her 40s was taken to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries after the explosion at the East Austin home before 7 a.m. In an earlier incident March 2, Anthony Stephan House, 39, was killed when a package exploded at his northeast Austin home, CBS affiliate KEYE reports.
Police also responded around 11:50 a.m. Monday to the report of an explosion in southeast Austin in which a woman was badly injured, according to police and the Associated Press, but more information wasn't immediately available and it wasn't clear whether it was related to the two package explosions...

The press is regurgitating what the Austin police department was slow to report (about the threat of opening strange packages found on your porch).
Apparently they have the materials from several packages and have concluded that they weren’t delivered by USPS, FedEx et al.
There is some suspicion that the bomber set them off local (while watching from within the neighborhood).
Sounds like they'd automatically rule out a hate crime if the victims were white.

A dozen or so protesters stood outside the Blue Cat Café in East Austin on Sunday to object to what they say is gentrification exemplified by the business that took the place of a local piñata shop two years ago...
The Blue Cat Café, near the intersection of Navasota and Cesar Chavez streets, sits on the property where Jumpolin had operated for eight years until it was suddenly demolished in February 2015 on the orders of the landowners, sparking community outrage.
According to a Facebook event page to organize the protest, the demonstration was intended to “tell Austin and anyone coming into our communities that we do not accept the continued erasure of our working class black and brown neighborhoods of the east side.”...
The protesters, with bandanas covering their faces, carried signs and shouted obscenities and accusations at the store’s owner, Rebecca Gray, and others inside the building. Tensions came to a boiling point almost immediately when protesters arrived and scuffled with supporters of the Blue Cat Café. One confrontation left a man bloodied, witnesses on both sides said.
At one point after Austin police arrived, officers used a stun gun during an arrest of a female protester, spurring angry shouts and slurs. Two protesters were eventually charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest and interfering, according to Austin police officials.
The tense scene outside the vegan eatery that has served as a home to more than 200 adoptable cats is a familiar one — Gray said the protesters have stood outside with their signs and chants about 30 times since the business began in October 2015.
Last October, on the anniversary of the business’s opening, workers discovered profane graffiti against “you gentrified scum” on the walls of the building, and vandals had glued the doors shut, trapping cats inside...

Wow. If the victims are black, then it may be a hate crime?
What if the victims were white and the perpetrator turns out to be black? Is that a hate crime?
What if the perpetrator in these Austin cases turns out to be black, is that still considered a hate crime?
If the victims were white and the perpetrator was white, is that also a hate crime?
I suspect if you're the victim and you're white, that there is no such thing as a hate crime against you....because "you be white-privileged".
When liberals wanted to make murder worse than just murder, they added their subjective judgment to the law pronouncing it a crime of "hateful murder". In the minds of liberals, that's a notch above just being dead. The victim was dead because somebody "hated" them.
