Parents Argue School District’s Decision to Allow Student Walkout Breaks Law
Breitbart ^ | 14 March 2018 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 03/15/2018 12:53:27 AM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

A group of parents from New Milford, Connecticut has hired an attorney to articulate their concerns about the decision by their school district to allow students to participate in the national student walkout held Wednesday to advocate for gun control.

In an email sent to Breitbart News, the parents – who wish to remain anonymous – argue the student walkout might appear to be a fairly innocuous First Amendment event to honor the students killed in the Parkland, Florida, shooting and to advocate for gun control.

However, the parents add, the decision involves issues concerning “adherence to law and policy, the manipulation of minors, the misuse of tax dollars, and indoctrination and political activism during school hours.”

They are especially concerned the student walkouts were organized by the Women’s March, an anti-Trump organization with ties to radical anti-Semites such as Louis Farrakhan.

In an interview with Breitbart News, the parents’ attorney, Deborah Stevenson – with expertise in constitutional and education law – spoke about the parents’ issues with their school district’s decision to allow students to participate in the walkout.

On March 12, Stevenson sent a letter to the New Milford Board of Education, superintendent Joshua D. Smith, and New Milford High School principal Greg P. Shugrue – which she made available to Breitbart News. Stevenson wrote:

My clients have asked me to notify you that this event violates state law, on the basis that state and local public funds are being used improperly to advocate for a political issue and to influence how voters will vote. Because it violates state law, we demand that the New Milford Public School District’s Superintendent and Board of Education immediately cancel the event, and rescind any association or prior involvement in it.

Good. This is going to turn into a mess if it's not stopped!

Excellent!

I understand it’s the Abortion Whores that are penetrating the minors with their radical hatred for the Country.

As the kids are minors, did the school get explicit permission from the parents to let the kids participate?

It’s a field trip, so parental permission should be required.

I would argue that letting them out of the building without supervision during the school day was hazarding those “protesting” - since it is all about safety...

I’ll admit it. I would have walked out when I was in school. And kept walking...

Seems reasonable to me. Field trip requires parent permission and follow district policy regarding the field trip itself.

Supervision or not, when I was in high school I would have walked out, snuck out and swooped to greener pastures. Quite possibly to enjoy some illicit activities and then partaking in some recreational shooting.

In laymen terms my buddies and I would have got stoned and went shootin!

Which is what many of the students, perhaps most, were doing.

And this lawsuit is still a good idea.

I agree. I would love to see a news story where they actually look into how many students just took the time off to go screw off!

Oh, I was not a shop lifter but you have to wonder how much shop lifting went up at the stores surrounding these schools. High school kids are notorious for their love of the “five finger discount”. Girls are the worst. They have more places to stuff things.

Many of these kids will be voters in 2020; this is part of the campaign. Some will even be voting this November...

Since I first learned of the plans for the walkout, I thought, “That’s a great idea. People are worried about shooting at schools, so we round the kids up in a nice, tight cluster and march them outside - everywhere, all over the country, take your pick.”

I was a teenager once. You could have got just as many students to walk out of class if you scheduled a protest over Michelle Obama’s school lunches or in memorial of the biology class guinea pig passing away. I bet 90% of those that walked out didn’t know or even care why, just an excuse to get out of class for a few minutes.

The school allowing a walkout turns it into a school sponsored activity. Don’t school sponsored activities require event insurance? If they don’t get the insurance and a student is injured is the school not responsible? If they do obtain the insurance and declare the walkout a school sponsored activity does the school then have to register as a lobbyist? If the latter, then all the students are being used for political purposes, not in school to obtain an education. In either case the schools are in for lawsuits. This is an idiot decision on the part of the schools. School employees need to be fired.

More evidence of “brain washing”, letting the spoiled snowflakes display another temper tantrum. In my day as a student, anyone who tried that “circus display” would have gotten an “F”, without exceptions. In days to come, this country will reap what it sows.
