"Like Bezos hasn’t destroyed enough wealth on his own! He’s like a one man China with what he’s done to retail and other service jobs in this country."

He didn't get to be as successful as he is by destroying wealth. This is backward thinking. Books don't exist so we can have book stores and book store clerks. Books exist so that people can read them. The less they have to spend on those books the richer they are.

Cars do not exist so we can have car factories and car dealers. The point of having cars is people having transportation. The less they have to spend on cars the richer they are.

Production and distribution are costs, not net creators of wealth. Reducing production and distribution costs are what makes everyone wealthier.

You are right and this is what you call softening up the target or preparing the battlefield prior to delivering the old coup de grace to finish them off.

Not a fan of Bezos, but he ‘he didn’t do it.’

The growth of Amazon was made possible by the confluence of circumstances that he simply took advantage of.

Unfortunately it will require new legislation in order to stop him from attaining a monopoly that will indeed lead to something close to world domination. Sounds insane, but in fewer than 20 years the guy has invented nothing and is pretty much the wealthiest man who has ever lived.

Twenty years from now, well God bless Posterity, but the Brave New World is coming.

I don’t doubt that (that they pay sales tax) I am more interested in knowing who pays the USPS driver their double/time ½ pay, for delivering on Sundays.

My UPS deliveries don’t normally arrive on Sunday, like my USPS (in a special USPS truck vs our usual rural PO delivery car) does.

Is Amazon paying for Sunday O/T....or, are my/your tax $$ paying for that?

Yes, and think of all the blacksmiths, saddlemakers and livery stable owners whose jobs were destroyed by Henry Ford.

The USPS have used their monopoly of 1st class mail to subsidize their package delivery system for a long time. When I worked for UPS, UPS approached congress complaining that the USPS was using unfair business practices in order to compete with us. I have a feeling that the post office is going to have a hard time holding on to Amazon’s business. IMO, Amazon is getting rates below the actual costs of service.

the secret of many is to use other peoples money.

On the other hand, when the amount of money you're shelling out comprises less than 2% of your net worth then other people's money isn't really needed, is it?

I don’t order from Amazon very often, but when I do I select 5 to 8 business day delivery. I live in a smaller metro area that has UPS and FEDEX in town. My take is Amazon tells UPS/FEDEX to hand off the delivery to the post office to SLOW the delivery process down for the last mile.

Maybe POTUS just wanted to see Bill Gates back as the richest man on the planet, and to put Bezos in his place.

Capitalism is somewhat of a gamble, but it’s better than socialism where the majority are guaranteed to have nothing.

Is that part of his job description?

I think Zuckerberg, Bezos and the people running Alphabet (aka Google) are going to feel a lot of political heat soon.
