Trump announces U.S. military strikes in Syria
Fox News.com ^ | April 13, 2018 | Matt Richardson

President Trump on Friday announced that he has approved military strikes in Syria against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The decision follows a suspected chemical gas attack from the Assad regime on a rebel-held town near the Syrian capital last weekend.

The United States launched the response, along with assurance from France and the United Kingdom, Trump stated.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the operation is currently targeting the "clandestine chemical arsenal" in Syria.

"This evening I have authorized British armed forces to conduct coordinated and targeted strikes to degrade the Syrian Regime’s chemical weapons capability and deter their use," British Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement.

Trump's announcement immediately preceded reports of loud explosions lighting up the sky in Damascus. Syrian TV reported that Syrian air defenses have responded to the U.S.-British-French attack.

Trump said the U.S. is prepared to "sustain" pressure on Assad until he ends what the president called a criminal pattern of killing his own people with internationally banned chemical weapons. It wasn't immediately clear whether Trump meant the allied military operation would extend beyond the initial nighttime round of missile strikes.

not at all. tonight, the hysterics are just louder than they are numerous — and they seem to be so angry that they’re a bit irrational.

just a weird thread.

Was the ordinance covered in the omnibus bill? Last time Mr. Trump did a Syrian missile strike it was $111 million. We are running a deficit you know.

What has me scratching my head is that Assad can bomb, shell & shoot civilians by the thousands without triggering a response from the U.S. (Pres. Trump was planning a pull out of forces from the area). But if Assad drops a barrel of chlorine out of a helicopter all hell breaks loose!

it’s absurd to lose your mind over $100 million of well placed guided munitions stuck firmly up a dictators tailpipe. it’s chump change, really.

laura ingram was yelling “we’re broke” on her show tonight. we’re not broke. that’s just irrational. the people objecting to this limited air strike are destroying their credibility by insisting that it’s somehow going to directly and immediately lead to the end of civilization.

maximum hysteria.

I’ve been saying it all night; what a weird thread.

You are still buying the BS about him using WMD?

Are you too ignorant to remember there were TWO Iraq wars? I was referring to the first one, the one after Saddam invade Kuwait.

We won and it was in our national interest to assure Saddam didn't move to control the world's oil supply.

Your argument for bombing is "we can afford it"? How about the effectiveness argument? The 59 TLAM's we lobbed into Syria a year ago didn't prevent this chlorine attack. Why risk unintended consequences (Russia doing something stupid) for little or no results? Posturing? Political points? "Teach 'em a lesson"? World Police Force? Or ?

Would like to know what changed President Trump's mind...he was very critical of the Obama administration but he does the same thing?

What will we get for bombing Syria besides more debt and a possible long term conflict? Obama needs Congressional approval.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 29, 2013

---------------

"In August 2013, Assad’s regime killed more than 1,400 people in a chemical weapons attack on the city of Damascus. Obama wanted to strike Syria in retaliation, but he chose to ask Congress to authorize his use of military force. Obama couldn’t get enough votes to pass his proposal, so he did not order strikes fired in direct retaliation for the chemical attacks."

If you already know about the following, the title and link might be good for copying and pasting in your comments anyway.

Three Syrian chemical weapons facilities were attacked. One was a chemical weapons research and development facility and the other two, chemical weapons storage facilities (sarin, a nerve agent).
