PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Southwest Airlines jet made an emergency landing at Philadelphia's airport Tuesday with part of the covering from its left engine ripped off and a window damaged.

Passengers walked off the 737 plane onto the tarmac at the airport. It wasn't immediately known if anyone on board was injured. Southwest Airlines said there were 143 passengers and five crewmembers on board.

A woman was pulled out of the plane in flight?

"...pulled out of airplane in-flight..."

Sounds almost like the Aloha Airlines disaster from years ago. I am still trying to understand this news report.

Sorry everyone - the title should say New York instead of Philadelphia. The plane was flying from NYC to Dallas.

"Woman Partially Sucked Out of Jet..."

Personally, I'd rather get dragged down the aisle by the ankles.

“Jet With Engine”

So it wasn’t a glider.

Put down the shade? I wonder if she was wearing her seatbelt. I’ve heard rumors that rescue workers pulled her out through the window after the plane landed, if this is the case then I don’t think this bodes well for her survival... terrible.

I immediately remember reading about Turkish flight 981, a DC-10, where one of the aft cargo doors failed. The pressure differential between the passenger cabin and the cargo deck caused the floor to cave in. Two occupied rows of seats, three seats each, collapsed and went out the cargo door, severing the flight control cables as they went out.

Good Lord!

I have over 3 million air miles and am pleased to say the worst thing I encountered was a lightning strike which was no big deal (the pilot even got on and said “we just had a lightning strike but these planes are designed for them”).

Rough weather and bouncing around, of course.

But nothing like that, thank God.

At least they put the plane back down mostly in one piece,

If the passenger dies I believe it will be the first ever for a accident related death on a Southwest flight.

Did that aircraft hit a flock of geese or a drone? WTF? It’s reported there was blood all over the cabin.. Bird strike? The elusive Phoenix?

Another picture shows what I believe to be the Front Fan intact, however the whole front nacelle is gone. CFM56, violent compressor stall?, or did something let go and, liberate internally. Either way, this sort of incident is a big deal to the FAA aka containment vs liberation of something internal where it impacts the fuselage....

Yep, the FAA will be all over that one. That plane won’t be back in service for a while.

I am trying to recall the size of an airplane window. I don’t think I’d fit through one?
