It’s Time to Abandon Earth Day

We all want to live in a world conducive to human health and safety. The good news is things have been improving for years.

Starting with the big picture, some five decades ago, 45 percent of the world’s population was living in extreme poverty. Today, that number is less than 10 percent. Back then, global life expectancy was 60 years old. It is now around 72, in developed countries, it’s more than 80. Even in Africa, the most impoverished region of the world, average lifespan has climbed from 47 to 60. The annual death rate of children under five years old has dropped from about 15 percent to under 5 percent, with much of that progress coming in developing countries.

And what about the environment? At the time of the first Earth Day, more than one million individuals worldwide, mainly children, died each year because of pathogens in polluted water. Fortunately, over the past four decades, the portion of the global population with access to improved water sources has jumped from only about 50 percent to more than 90 percent.

In the 1970s, 24 oil spills occurred in oceans on average per year. Since 2000, the average has dipped to three per year, and the quantity of oil spilled has declined by 99 percent.

Butt, butt, butt.......erf day makes people "feel" better about their efforts. I vote YES to dismiss it. Then I won't have to look for tires to burn every year. ;-) I just saw an email from bill nelson whining about the oil spill in the gulf a few years back and him introducing legislation to keep Trump and admin from opening up new areas to explore. I sure hope he loses the upcoming (s)election. Slimy POS.

P.S. Don't try to tell them the facts. To them. facts suck.

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me”. When people worship the creation instead of the creator, who are they really worshipping? When they say the earth would be better off without humans, they are advocating human sacrifice.

"Contrary to the erroneous beliefs of some, the drivers of progress were not Earth Day awareness or Hippie platitudes. Rather, they were freedom and capitalism—and the many benefits of these principles."

Yeah...."freedom and capitalism" - what some refer to now as WHITE PRIVILEGE

“We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. “Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails.” And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. Save the planet, we don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet. I’m tired of this. I’m tired of f-ing Earth Day. I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.” - George Carlin

Without Earth Day, how are liberal socialists supposed to celebrate V.I. Lenin’s Birthday, without actually calling it “ Lenin’s Birthday”????

Well yeah, all those facts and figures are nice and all that, but why abandon Earth Day when the ultimate goal hasn't yet been achieved ???

GLOBAL SOCIALIST UTOPIA

Until then, Earth Day stays .....

Burn a tire for Mother Gaia. A little diesel to get it started helps. Do a dance around the tree chanting. Let out a primal scream.

Thanks rktman. We should rename it “Ira Einhorn Day” and move it into Wymyn’s Hystory Month.

Naturally, It’s become important to stuff Ira Einhorn’s previously uncontested role in the establishment of Earth Day into the memory hole, and the Partisan Media Shills are only too happy to participate in a cover-up of that kind.

Neighbor is coming down with a borrowed track hoe/front end loader to tear out my grass in the back. Well, actually it’s become a port o potty for the cotton tails and jack dogs. We no longer have a pup so we don’t need it for that so............. DG will be put down in it’s place.

Earth Day is similar to Kwanza. Two needless, made up, unrequested ‘holidays’ meant to point out what we’re supposed to be doing wrong. Two holidays that the vast majority don’t pay any attention to.

There’s nothing wrong with environmental awareness. A century or more ago it was recognized that it was better to locate a camp’s latrine down stream from where drinking water was gathered.

40 years ago paper mills dumped effluent into two rivers in my area. Upstream from the mills was clean and fairly clear water. Once the effluent hit the river the water turned a putrid brown.

Other examples of excessive pollution are the acid rain that changed the biology of the Copper Hill TN basin, the Cleveland River fire and the old LA smog days, plus many, many more examples that have been remedied.

Pollution is not climate change. Environmental awareness is common sense for an improved quality of life.

Earth Day is similar to Kwanza…

Hopefully, it will pass in the same manner as the Luddites.
