According to the Department of Justice Inspector General, fired FBI Director James Comey is under investigation after leaking classified information to a friend last year, who then passed it along to a reporter. The information was contained in a series of memos written by Comey after meetings and phone calls with President Donald Trump.
But despite what the law says about disseminating classified information, Comey may not face conseqences. According to House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, Comey may have saved himself thanks to the exoneration of Hillary Clinton.
"Not by the standard he set in the summer of 2016. God knows how hard it would be to win that case," Gowdy said in response to a question about whether Comey broke the law. "Remember, he ignored the statute that says 'grossly negligent.' He now has a requirement that it has to be intentional and you have to do it to harm the United States. So under the standard that he set in summer 2016 with Secretary Clinton, I don't think Jesus could win that case."

The release of the memos last week came after Gowdy and a number of leading Republicans threatened the FBI with a subpoena for failing to turn them over by an earlier deadline.
"We have long argued former Director Comey's self-styled memos should be in the public domain, subject to any classification redactions. These memos are significant for both what is in them and what is not," Gowdy released in a joint statement with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes. "Former Director Comey leaked at least one of these memos for the stated purpose of spurring the appointment of Special Counsel, yet he took no steps to spur the appointment of Special Counsel when he had significant concerns about the objectivity of the Department of Justice under Attorney General Loretta Lynch."
An inspector general report about how the FBI and Obama DOJ handled the Clinton email scandal is due to be release any day.
False. And way above Gowdy's pay grade.

TRANSLATION
Because a criminal let off another criminal. He likely won’t face charges.
Wait, I see it now.
Gowdy is auditioning to be assigned as the 2nd Special Counsel.
“The Washington Generals” isn’t it?
They should be “The Washington House and Senate”.
Howdy Gowdy plays his part as opposition loser very well.
He’ll get that nice cushy lobbyist gig when he leaves.
Gowdy, in deciding to retire, has shown his goal is to protect the swamp at all costs.
He could have been a hero for the history books by taking down the corrupt in government.
He chose the swamp instead.
And so has Sessions.
But Gowdy may be correct that nothing will happen to Comey. Who will "convene" this grand jury?
Gowdy is a very smart lawyer.. so what do they have on him that he’s been talking off the wall and into the swamp.. he’s one huge disappointment and is all this the reason he is leaving? Is he being bought? He’s been paid for votes before.. he’s usable goods.
Gowdy is part of the Establishment. Equal treatment under the law is alien to him. He was contaminated by his participation in the system.
That’s a given. Even if they did convene one and he was indicted, he’d be dead by morning. Home invasion or a suicide. Take your pick.
This is so typical of Gowdy. He’ll say the right thing in the morning but by the end of the same day he will stab us in the back. Good riddance to this fraud.
And we thought Gowdy was a white hat.
By this standard no one can be tried for anything.
He went beyond the roll of his authority in doing so and was wrong to bring “lack of intent” on Hillary’s part. It may have looked good going down the line but it was a foul ball all the way.
May I note that Comey also said others shouldn’t expect to get away with what she did without consequences.
What the heck is Gowdy talking about? Hillary can still be charged with her crimes. She was never put on trial. They have the evidence to prove that FBI/Justice department rigged the case. Justice must be set right. The law was not followed by Comey. Comey’s decision must not stand.
So Comey’s mendacious incompetence is supposed to set a fixed precedent for how to deal with his own criminality??? I don’t think so!!
Pretty sure that was sarcasm by Gowdy.
