Turkey looking at buying Russian Su-57 fighter jets instead of US’ F-35’s - newspaper

ANKARA, May 27. /TASS/. Turkey is looking at buying Russian Su-57 fighter jets in case the United States refuses to sell its F-35 warplanes, Turkey’s YeniSafak reported on Sunday.

Nevertheless, according to the newspaper, Ankara is not planning to abandon its right to US fighter jets, with deliveries expected to begin in June. Turkey has launched a discussion about a possible replacement to US planes and Russian-made Su-57 jets are seen as a good alternative as they are nearly half-price as compared with US F-35 planes, YeniSafak said, not specifying however the level of discussion.

As of now, Ankara has made no official commentaries on that matter.

The US House of Representatives on May 25 passed a bill on Pentagon’s budget for 2019, stripping the US defense secretary of a possibility to approve sales of US weapons to Turkey without a special report on Ankara’s purchasing Russian-made S-400 missile systems. Turkey earlier said it planned to buy more than 100 F-35A fighter jets but the bill may hamper the contract.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hami Aksoy said on May 25 his country may take measures against the United States if Washington breaks down the F-35 deal.

The “sick man of Europe” should not be in NATO. Erdogan and his false religion is one reason. The rest are obvious.

If they change their leading fighter, they have to change everything.

So they won’t.

They’ll take what the US allows.

Turkey circles closer to the drain.

Growing islamic dictatorship, crashing currency. A brain drain is underway, and capital is fleeing.

Kind of like the early days of Chavez in Venezuela, but without oil revenue.

Russia might sell Erdogan jets, but it is less certain if he will be able to pay for them when the time comes.

“they are nearly half-price “ and China will finance the deal on better terms than us I’ll bet.

Yes, China looks, for now, like a more profitanle friend to them then we or Europe. A wise ruler would see their future as being a bridge though. Not a vassal of China.

There’s a guy here in PA that would like to see Erdogan ousted.
Though he’s probably not any better...

Russia might sell them planes, but as the Turks have shot down Russians during the current conflict, I can’t see them giving an enemy the best that they have. 4th generation machines might be on the table.

We should NOT be selling Turkey any advanced weapon systems at all. In fact, we should be discussing kicking them out of NATO.

We should not be selling them so much as a firecracker.

In a dogfight they could possibly win. They will not see us coming. Tiny little F35B. Is that a fly I see on radar? Kaboom. SU-57 destroyed.

Remember, the Russian economy is the size of Italy... of Texas. What happened the last time the Russians wanted an arms race and then they had a lot more resources? We have 1.5 trillion $ for the military over the next two years. Their entire economy is less than 1.3 trillion a year. Talk about an ass whipping.

The Russian planes will be easier to take out when the time comes for that, I think. The USSR and its follow-on state export state-of-the(their)-art systems to their clients and friends but they are always downgraded versions of same so that if one falls into Western hands all the super duper secrets of the Russians cannot be divined and if Russia/USSR ever has to fight that client state then the advantage is all with Russia.

Russia always sells “seconds” versions of its systems to others.

The thing about these high-end stealth planes is, they don't have as much impact on an adversary when the adversary destroys them on the ground a few hours before you plan to use them. Thanks sukhoi-30mki.
