The Trump administration is examining ways U.S. industries could hire more immigrant workers on a temporary basis, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on Friday, as data showed the United States unemployment rate at an 18-year low.

No issue with guest workers, when needed, and providing that their spouses families stay out of this country - and they get sent home to have babies.

Absolutely not. Those Hondurans were supposed to be ‘’temporary’’ and they ended up being here for twenty years. First thing any guest worker will do is get lost n here and they'll never leave.

33% of all workers in Singapore are foreigners on a 2 year work visa. They take jobs Singapore citizens do not want.

Every 6th Singapore citizen is a millionaire, highest percentage in the world.

Singapore is weird. A lot of folks essentially work in closets.

I think this can drive down wages. We also have a lot of homeless people on the streets (I see some myself out panhandling), and I think they should be considered for jobs first. I think we need to make sure that an unemployed American can’t fill that seat. If no American wants it, then I’m okay with guest workers.

Maybe we should consider this when the unemployment of NATIVE Americans eligible to work is ZERO or is that naive?

Re: “Every 6th Singapore citizen is a millionaire, highest percentage in the world.”

30% of Monaco's citizens are millionaires, almost twice as high as Singapore.

Is Singapore a tax haven, like Monaco?

Also, what percentage of Singapore's citizens are actually employed?

And what is the median wage for non-citizens?

We still need to get the welfare people off welfare and into the workforce. That might even solve some of their over-weight problems.

Let the prospective employer put some “skin in the game” if they claim American citizens are not available for their employment needs so they need to import temporary aliens. Let the employer state how long the alien will be needed and put up a $100,000 bond for each alien. The aliens will wear an electronic ankle bracelet or other tracking device. By the last day of the stated employment period the employer should present the alien(s) to the immigration authorities for deportation or forfeit the bond.

Labor force participation is still really low.
We have many people out of the workforce who are working age.
Lets employ every American before we import workers.

Monaco is not a country who produces wealth. Singaporee is a country which has a thriving manufacturing industry producing real wealth. What industry does Monaco have except tourists and ALREADY wealthy people taking a residence there for tax reasons?

I guess you are not smart enough to understand the difference between Monaco & SIngapore. One is just a small enclave with no military, no industry of significance, while the other is a real country with real military and real industry.

This is really big! Singapore has essentially ZERO unemployment rate for their citizens. Only those who are not working are simply between jobs. Statistical unemployment rate therefore hovers at 1% due those who are looking for better jobs, starting a business etc.

That is why Singapore imports foreign workers on 2 year work visa's. They take mostly jobs citizens do not want. And Singapore is NOT a tax haven like Monaco.

Re: “Singapore is NOT a tax haven like Monaco.”

I have read that Singapore is the first stop for newly minted millionaires from mainland China. In fact, Singapore is 75% Chinese.

Re: “Singapore has essentially ZERO unemployment rate for their citizens.”

I was looking for the “Labor Participation Rate.”

If half the working age population are members of the Idle Rich, then I am not surprised that “Unemployment” is zero, and that they need to import labor.

That’s exactly the same labor situation they have in the small oil rich nations in the Persian Gulf.

There are perhaps more Chinese rich in Seattle where we lived for 12+ years than Singapore. When we moved, the buyer was a Chinese immigrant who paid in cash. And they are buying a lot of the expensive homes in that area.

One reason the unemployment is so low in Singapore is there is no welfare, no food stamps, no unemployment checks for working age people without disability. Our tour guide said “if you don’t work, you don’t eat in Singapore”.

The foreign workers are required to return to home country after the 2 year visa expires and re-apply for a new one.

Religious trouble makers are dealt with harshly. Foreigners are promptly deported. I saw so many sign-posts saying “Drug dealers will get death penalty”. That may be another reason for prosperity, there is a severe shortage of drug addicts.

The Singapore airport, Cruise terminal and underground hi-ways are one of the best I have seen during my travels to 36 countries and 30 ocean cruises.

The population is a mix of Chinese, Indians and Arab Muslims, with a few British hang-overs.
