So I guess since many Islam practices are mandatory, the jails are allowed to cater to a Muslim's every religious demand.

I bet they wouldn’t be allowed to withhold a Koran.

So what are the mandatory aspects of Christianity, according to this court?

Conraad Hoever is a sex offender.

He was placed in Solitary Confinement and should not expect the right to read a Bible, the Koran or the funny papers.

A proper worship in any Christian faith mandates a reading of scripture, the sacred writings of Christianity contained in the Bible. You can’t read what you do not have.

The State is prohibiting the Free Exercise of this man’s Religion. Patently unconstitutional.

a court deciding what practices of a church are ‘mandatory religious practices’... is engaged in the “establishment of religion”.. in violation of the First Amendment’s anti-establisment clause.

it is not up to the state (court) to decide what is, are “mandatory” religious practices for any particular church or individual citizen, and what is, are not.

It will likely be overturned on appeal. The state has to show some compelling custodial reason to deny the bible, e.g. Custody safety, security or maintenance of order.

So secular government is going to tell religions what are mandatory parts of their faiths?

And before someone says child sacrifice, we have laws against murder and animal cruelty and hygiene laws all peoples are under.

This is being able to read the book of your faith.

If the prisoner was threatening to hit people over the head with a bible, if he was eating the pages as a way to sicken himself, or if he was likely to hide contraban within the book, i could see refusing him a bible, or any large book.
If that is not the case, then why?

Do a search on the incarcerated gentleman. He has filed several suits on various matters. The Rutherford Institution is wrong on this. There is good reason for prisons to ban certain materials to inmates in solitary. Not for content but for the potential they can be used for other purposes. The court is upholding precedent and if you read the ruling you will see that Hoever still continued religious practice while in solitary. If he was denied a Bible and other material once back in general population I would agree with the outrage shown here. But it appears that Hoever is a jail house lawyer looking for any means to tie the prison up in court. Here is a link to the ruling.

Hoever, who “believes that he is called to study the Bible daily and that these daily devotionals prevent him from falling from grace,” had asked for one of the three Bibles he already owned.

He's in solitary confinement in a maximum security prison. I'm pretty sure his fall from grace has been going on for some time now.

Conraad Hoever, held in Florida’s Franklin Correctional Institution, was placed in solitary confinement in 2013 for “disrespecting” a prison guard, and he asked to have a Bible with him.

Well, hell's bells - the guy is getting special punishment for being a dick-wad and it's turned into a religious debate because the Left know so many are primed to turn anything into a religious deal just as they turn everything into racial deals.

Maybe Y'All think he should have been given the Bible, had a reading lamp provided and maybe a special set of specs to make it easier to read - and since he felt "it was his calling to study the Bible while locked up for his crimes" maybe they should have provided a good looking theologian to help him understand what he was reading....
