New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has just ratcheted up the extreme risk protection order or red flag law game by several degrees. He has proposed legislation which would enable teachers and other school officials to petition courts to block access to guns by students.
Translated from the newspeak, this legislation would allow teachers to file an extreme risk protection order petition against the parents of a suspect student.
From newsday.com:
Cuomo said the bill would be the first in the nation to provide an opportunity for a teacher to act on suspicions that students could be a danger to themselves or others. Under current law, Cuomo said a school official has no legal standing to petition a judge to remove or secure guns in the home of a student.
In other words, to confiscate the parents firearms.
The evidence suggests that, in many cases, the teacher already had suspicions about a student before an action happened, Cuomo said. Right now, teachers are basically powerless. . . . [The bill] gives them a vehicle to do something about it.
Cuomo said the State Senates Republican majority rejected the idea during budget negotiations, from January through March. However, the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Democratic-led Assembly have already passed a red-flag bill limited to family members, household members, police officers and prosecutors. The bill, co-sponsored by state Sen. Brian Kavanagh (D-Manhattan), would prevent a school-age child from purchasing or possessing a firearm under the extreme risk protection orders from judges.
Unstated in the Governors press blitz is the fact that most age school students arent old enough to legally own or purchase firearms. Its the parents gun rights that will be put at risk by Cuomos proposal.
If adopted, its easy to imagine the governor and New Yorks famously gun rights-hostile legislature not stopping there. They could eventually expand the laws reach to non-custodial parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins
. Were living in interesting times.
Because the Teacher’s Union owns you and your kids, not you.
They’ll ram it through at midnight as “emergency legislation”.
You see, they’re angry at the estimated 90% non-compliance rate with the registration of long guns they stuck in the “safe act”
Sooner or later there will be a court challenge
If a teacher tutored a suspect student in their own home isn’t there a danger the student will steal their weapons? Better confiscate all teacher’s firearms just to be safe. Problem kids could grab the school safety officer’s sidearm. Better disarm them. Rogue politicians could take guns from their bodyguards. No more of that.
Home school...
When unions are used this way they are nothing more, and no different than, a communist dictatorial collective. I feel as though the past few years, and the Trump Presidency, have removed the cataract of false normalcy, and revealed the cold, hard, and disappointing truth about what has been happening in the pretense of a free society. We’ve been played.
Parents need the option of an Extreme Risk Protection Order against teachers and schools and school districts.
I have to believe theres much higher risk of students being harmed by STDs acquired from sexual and homosexual activities fostered by pubic ed minions.
Oh. Yeah... Thats not going to be abused, is it?
I would like the ability to have politicians tarred and feathered....
When I see this picture I think ,Invasion of the Body Snatchers ,LOL
Wouldn’t be an issue if clueless parents were held liable for what they knew, or should have known, about their
Columbine kids.
I'll BUMP to that!
I’d like to add an “amendment” to this POS legislation that says that all politicians bodyguards must be unarmed.
Let’s see how the Oligarchs like it when they have no real protection...
P.S. Next Monday, all children will be required to bring a banana to school.
Are the parents of teachers a threat?
Status Cuomo is communist scum.
Here’s one way it would ‘work’:
Little Johnny and little Sally go to their 0bamacare doctor for an annual checkup. Doctor asks the routine question of whether or not there are firearms in the home (locked up becomes irrelevant).
That ‘private’ information is forwarded to the appropriate school and some reason is manufactured to justify confiscating said firearms.
H.O.M.E.S.C.H.O.O.L.!!
How many more reasons do parents need?
After 25 pre-school vaccines most kids won’t know how to draw a gun never mind own one.
