Shout loud and long enough, though, and we can prevail. We can civilize our gun laws.
One month ago, this editorial page launched a campaign called “31 bullets” to promote 31 ways to curb gun violence in our nation, and with each proposed action we did our best to include a simple way that you, personally, could make it happen.
We presented our 31st and last bullet — a call for federal design safety standards for American-made guns — on Tuesday.
EDITORIAL
We have called the campaign, which we are conducting in partnership with the communications firm of Ogilvy & Mather, “31 bullets” because that is the average number of bullets manufactured in this country each year for every man, woman and child. But we easily could have listed 41 ways to make our nation safer from guns, or 51 or 61.

But who will civilize our butter knife laws, baseball bat laws,machete laws and our home made bomb laws. No mention of the “human” causes” of these tragedies. School administrations refusal to initiate sound security in school, obamas school policies and his social justice nonsense that plague us all 2 years out of office, county police turning their backs until it is over

Does the paranoid writer understand the concept of “target practice”?
It doesn’t mean an arsenal of ammo for a war, real bullets are used by firearm owners as they learn to use their tool.
And how about places like Vermont, Maine, Switzerland, many regions of Texas, Montana, and the Dakotas? Do areas like this need lectures from Chicago about civilized gun control laws? How about England and Canada in the 1950s and ‘60s when both those countries had very casual firearms laws accompanied by very little or no violent crime?
20,000 gun laws already and none of them work.
If only they would consider 31 qualities that make up a terrible person that will wantonly kill, and 31 ways to stop them. Then they might be onto something.

Then it’s not a assault on voting rights to call for a age restriction of 25 for anyone that wants to vote. It’s just common sense.
I come from the older generation where we didn’t have shootings at school, mass shootings at clubs and gatherings and strict gun laws and the most amazing thing was back in my day mass shootings were extremely rare. Fast forward to today and we have mass shootings several times a year and each time the gun laws get stronger and up to the point of ridiculous yet we have more and more of them each year. What is the difference between now and back then? The answer is simple: PUNISHMENT! Now days if a child is actually punished with something to remember (like a good whipping) for breaking the rules of society or home, the parent may go to jail for making the child realize that bad manner equals physical pain. It’s called a paddling or whipping and is now called physical abuse. Somehow us older people survived up to the 60’s and were not killed by our parents or placed in such a mental state by corporal punishment that we then go out and kill others. The link between bad behavior and pain has forever been broken and now the new generation can reap the rewards.

Back in 1984, me and my family lived in New Zealand and the caning of boys in high school who misbehaved was still legally permitted there. That may have been that good bit cruel, but when I look back at that time, the cane kept a good many of us (including myself) honest.
I remember sharing this here a while back and someone told me that they went to a boys’ Catholic school in Boston in the ‘60s and that the brothers were very nice and decent people but still patrolled the halls with paddles and that you knew that they did not tolerate any kind of horseplay that seems to be so much more commonplace now.

It is easy for people that have no responsibility to protect anyone to advocate disarming those that do.
The answer is NO. In the most severe way imaginable.
