Immigration has emerged as the number one issue for voters in the midterm elections, surpassing both the economy and health care as the policy area that will most determine how votes are cast, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.
The poll, conducted between June 28 and July 2, found that fifteen percent of registered voters named immigration as the issue that will most significantly impact how they cast their vote, while fourteen percent said the economy was their top priority.
Immigration first became a top issue for voters in May after the Trump administration rolled out its zero tolerance immigration enforcement policy, which mandated the criminal prosecution of everyone who crosses the border illegally, thereby prompting the separation of roughly 3,000 children from their parents.
The share of Republicans who said immigration was their top issue (26 percent) increased by a significant 14 percentage points from a similar poll conducted in early June. A newfound willingness to advocate the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement among an increasingly vocal share of prominent Democrats may, at least in part, explain the spike.

I’m hoping the DNA tests that are being done will reveal the sex trafficking of children. People need to see that the children being “separated from their parents” are often not travelling with their parents: they are being sold.
If Trump makes that clear, it will have a huge impact.
The other 48% need to mow their own lawns and clean their own toilets.
Immigration has always been a top issue, but Bush League Republicans were blocking the citizens from doing anything about it.
I suspect that at least some of that 48% feel that he’s not tough enough on immigration.
Im wondering if thats the 47% who dont pay taxes ....
Democrats read polls as well. Suddenly they are no longer promoting open borders, socialism and the dissolution of US law enforcement. Can’t let them hide.
Keep advocating open borders idiot Democrats.
I totally missed the economy was the 2nd top issue ... more winning !!!
Or find a teenage kid in the neighborhood to do the mowing for a reasonable price as we have done.
Not that it makes much of a difference, but National Review is misquoting the Reuters/Ipsos poll that they cite in the article:
“However, Trumps approval on his handling of immigration remains little changed since the beginning of the year, with 52 percent of registered voters saying in an ongoing Reuters/Ipsos poll that they disapprove of the way the president is handling immigration.”
Last Friday, Esmarelda Garza, 29, was arrested in Corpus Christi for selling her 7 year-old son and attempting to sell her daughters, ages 2 and 3. The Texas Department of Public Safety was investigating a case of drug running when they raided a location and came across the 7 year old boy.
Thank God law enforcement rescued these three children. How many others will not be rescued if ICE is abolished by Democrats?
If Immigration is #1 (Border security and a reasoned plan) and the economy is #2, then Trump should have more that 52% of the support in these two areas.
I agree that these two are BIG issues, the polling error is in Trump’s support on these which I would guess would be closer to 60%, not 52% - which is devastating to Dems.
The local kids here are completely unskilled. They don't wrench on things and have never had to do chores. I hire them but it's really rough going.
I think you need to reread the 1965 bill on immigration that led to a massive wave of criminal aliens from 3rd world shitholes. This was the beginning of the Rat party wave of breeding, ignorant, voters. The Rat party owns, so stop trying to cover for them.
Definitely. A lot of people who don’t approve want the wall built and no chance of amnesty.
Why can’t we have some statistics on the percentage who do not pay income taxes? All polls should have them.
"...closer to 60%, not 52%..."
Put me on that list. I'm tired of arguing with Left Wing kooks and I know they would destroy property if they thought it was owned by a Trump supporter.
Ditto - had Trump bumper sticker on my last car, but not my new one.
