The National Football League announced Thursday that it will freeze its new policy requiring players to remain standing during the national anthem.
The NFL said in a statement that it has been working on a resolution to the anthem issue with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), one week after the association filed a grievance against the league over its controversial anthem policy.
In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPAs grievance and on the NFLs anthem policy, the NFL's statement reads. No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing.
The NFL and NFLPA reflect the great values of America, which are repeatedly demonstrated by the many players doing extraordinary work in communities across our country to promote equality, fairness and justice, the statement continued. Our shared focus will remain on finding a solution to the anthem issue through mutual, good faith commitments, outside of litigation.
In May, NFL owners voted to approve a policy requiring players on the field to stand during the national anthem. Players who "do not stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem" are subject to a fine under the policy.
Under the terms of the announced policy, which was implemented after months of controversy surrounding the anthem protests, players are allowed to stay in the locker room.
President Trump has repeatedly attacked NFL players who kneel during the anthem as part of a movement sparked by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick protesting police brutality and racial inequality.
In August 2017, Trump stoked backlash after calling for players who did not stand for the anthem to be fired, referring to such a player as a "son of a bitch."
The president also slammed the new anthem policy earlier this month, saying that it is "worse" than allowing players to kneel.
>> If those spoiled rotten, immature, stupid thugs
Insignificant thugs no different than the MSM minions ranting on the airways.
Subscribers must turn their attention to the BODs and major shareholders. Bitching about players and anchors accomplishes absolutely nothing.
Until the parent corps are punished financially, nothing will change.
Comcast could probably be put into bankruptcy if the Right decided to walk the talk.
Weak as water, weak as water!
Sunday’s the Sabbath, anyway.
In fact, that’s a big reason the NFL really didn’t take off until the 1970s, many in the early days of the NFL were upset they played on Sundays. Even baseball had some issues with playing on Sunday in the early 1900s.
Even in Britain, they didn’t play soccer games on Sunday until, 1974.
There’s a lot of great things to do on Sunday including fishing.
Th NFL needs to grow a pair. The players are employees. If they want to protest they can do it on their own time and not slap the faces of every red blooded American!
Oh, that will bring back the fans./sarc

Pray first, then fish.
I wish I could be reighteously indignant, but I gave up TV twenty years ago. My chances of watching NFL games are slim even if they clean up their act.
The players long ago lost an attitude of gratitude. If the US and NFL are so bad, they should just drop out and put their college degrees to good use
What a trainwreck this league has become. Glad I left.
The owners aren’t afraid of players and the “race card.” I suspect the biggest fear among NFL owners is that they know damn well that many of these players are criminals who wouldn’t hesitate to make a ton of money fixing games if the league comes down hard on them.
The Calgary Stampeders are 4-0 so far this season.
Just sayin.....
If I cared about yardage, Id buy fabric.
I have been in a Fantasy Football League with 23 other guys, mostly in the maintenance shop where I work, for the last twenty two years. It was a pretty big deal for a long time.
It kind of just petered out in the middle of last season. Even with $2400 on the table, people just lost interest. Nobody was watching the games. It is time to start up the league this year, and nobody cares. I dont think we will have a 2018 season.
If the NFL has lost these guys, theyre toast. When nobody is talking about football down in the Maintenance Shop, its all over.
BTW, the Sabbath has always been on Saturday.
Good for them. As for myself, I will never watch another NFL game or buy an NFL product.
Officers killed in the line of duty in 2018
At least 49 so far this year.
The NFL can go to HELL.
I didn't need a new reason to not watch, you took care of that already.
It is interesting to watch employees participate in the assisted suicide of a multibillion dollar company.
“working on a resolution to the anthem issue”
The only resolution is this: you make a rule, and fire the players who don’t follow it.
