Schumer asks national archivist for sensitive Kavanaugh records

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) has asked the national archivist for documents related to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s service as White House staff secretary, doing an end-run around the GOP chairman of he Senate Judiciary Committee in the process.

Schumer on Tuesday accused Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) of breaking precedent by making what he considered a partisan request of the National Archives for only some documents related to Kavanaugh’s time as staff secretary under President George W. Bush.

“They are concealing records,” Schumer said of Grassley and his Republican colleagues. “What does Judge Kavanaugh have to hide? What are our Republican colleagues to afraid of revealing?”

“I called the archivist myself yesterday. I made a request of him that even if the Bush Library, even if the Republican lawyers, even if Chairman Grassley says don’t give up the records, he should have the strength, the courage and the fidelity to what an archivist is about to give us those records,” he said.

The archivist, David Ferriero, said he would consider the request.

“He’ll get back to us at the end of the week, hopefully with a positive answer,” Schumer told reporters.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), a member of the Judiciary Committee, said the Senate requested all of the records related to Justice Elena Kagan’s service in the Obama administration when she was nominated to the Supreme Court in 2010.

Schumer said that Republicans have flip-flopped on the standard they insisted on for Kagan.

“When it comes to judicial nominees, our Republican colleagues do an 180-degree about face in their headlong rush to send a nominee to the court without careful review,” he said.

“Chairman Grassley has broken all historical precedent and has made a partisan request to the National Archives, requesting only a small portion of Judge Kavanaugh’s time in the White House,” Schumer added.

Kavanaugh served nearly three years as Bush’s staff secretary, from 2003 to 2006, handling many sensitive internal White House communications.

Republicans have agreed to share the documents Kavanaugh worked on when he served in the White House counsel’s office but they have drawn a line at his work while staff secretary, arguing that he merely handled paper flow instead of authoring policy.

Kavanaugh served in the counsel’s office before taking the staff secretary’s job.

I won't be surprised when Democrats ask for a stool sample.

This colonoscopy is reserved for Republicans and other normal people. It’s getting insane. I think we have not seen anything like what it’s going to be, ever.

Bush can assert executive privilege just like Obama keeps doing with documents from his regime.

It will be very telling to see whether W does so or not.

We have a RIGHT to see all intelligence and FBI files on Schemer along with his college grades and all law enforcement files back into age 12. Thank you. I want every woman he ever dated or worked for him or with him to be interviewed. This is important for the security of our nation since he in the minority leader in the Senate and we know nothing about him. Also we will need all medical; records immediately including all drugs he is taking now or has ever taken. Appreciate it.

You have to realize that they don’t care about the truth. They only care about denying any Trump nomination, because want to control SCOTUS>

Also realize that this is coming from the first LIAR of the Senate Charles “Chuck the Schmuck” Schumer.

He will do anything to get his way. He is a true B@$T@RD.

Chuck Grassley should set a date right now, come hell or high water, for when his committee will vote Kavanaugh out of committee and Mitch McConnell should likewise set the date for the Senate floor vote. period.

The Republicans should comply!

Make one million copies, take your good old gubbmint time doing it.

A typical box of NEW copier paper is 5000 sheets. 200 boxes would be about 4 pallets full. Deliver this middle of September.

And then VOTE to CONFIRM early in October wiith no delay.

Trump should put Rosenstein on Kavanaugh document retrieval duty. That’s guaranteed to give the Democrats nothing.

Hey Schmuckey, where was and is your concern about Obama secreting his records? What is Obama hiding and why didn't you care about that when it concerned someone running for the most powerful position in American Government?

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), a member of the Judiciary Committee, said the Senate requested all of the records related to Justice Elena Kagan’s service in the Obama administration when she was nominated to the Supreme Court in 2010.

They were requested but not all delivered. Also they asked for Kagan's records from the Clinton admin and a lot of those were witheld.

“That’s right. But just wait till Trump nominates Ginsberg’s replacement.”

According to a recent “pronouncement,” Ruthie has “decided to “stay on” until she’s 90! ( Or until her drool cup is full, whichever occurs first). More proof that you just can’t keep a “Good Capo” down!
