DeSantis: Gillum wants to turn Florida 'into Venezuela'

Ron DeSantis is going after his Florida Democratic gubernatorial rival Andrew Gillum as the GOP congressman seeks to move on from controversy surrounding a racially-charged remark made last week.

DeSantis told host John Catsimatidis in an interview airing Sunday on AM 970 in New York that Gillum, who is backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and advocates for more left-leaning proposals such as "Medicare for all" and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is an "untraditional" opponent.

"I would say it's very untraditional for Florida, [though] not anything to do with me, I'm a solid conservative in the Reagan tradition and I've been supportive of the president's agenda," DeSantis said.

"This Andrew Gillum, he's on the far-left socialist fringe," DeSantis continued. "He's a Bernie Sanders, [Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez type candidate."

"If you have a guy like this enacting a socialist agenda it's going to absolutely destroy all the progress that Florida has made," he added. "He wants to turn Florida in to Venezuela."

Yea, we haven’t heard a word from Mr. Hartpence, but Miss Rice was later embarrassed and apologetic about that photo.

It will happen if Republican voters sit out the election or are too uninformed to know that an election will be held.

I never examined the logo on Hart’s shirt before today.

Totally funny in today’s context.

Florida could be either of those places if Gillum ever gets into a position where he could monkey things up.

In fact, it could throw the whole state into along-term tizzy, by throwing a monkey wrench into the works.

It took California almost forty years to arrive at their present state. Now THERE is an example of people actively trying to monkey up state government, and the major culprit there has been Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, who just kept coming back like a bad penny. Of course, he had help from Gray Davis, who went full-left “equality” socialist, and there was just no serious successor to reverse that over-the-cliff suicide course.

“The only problem “redistributionists” face is that all the things they wish to “redistribute” are produced by capitalism.”

The smart ones know that. So they want to keep businesses alive just enough to keep producing the golden egg that they then steal to magnify their own power.

That’s why they like large businesses and hate small ones—large businesses are easy to control.

Those factors almost inevitably converge to Italian-style fascism.

as the GOP congressman seeks to move on from controversy surrounding a racially-charged remark made last week.

He never made a "racially-charged remark" - last week nor at any other time. Fake news straight out of the gate in the first line of the article.

I’m not a FL resident but I can’t imagine the voters of FL electing a leftist radical such as Gillum.

Of course they wouldn't - which is why they want the narrative to be that DeSantis is a racist and all of these criticisms of Gillum's extremism is in fact motivated by racism. As you can see from the first paragraph of this article, the press is all too willing to comply with the false narrative.

The left wing Orlando Sentinel realizes that too although they will not say so directly. The front page featured a story contrasting the two candidates, both left and right as well as "the monkey" comment they are trying to hang DeSantis with.

The editorial page whined about the Primary System in Florida, which is a closed system. Dems vote for Dems and the poor, poor Independents (about 40%) can't stop the left wing Dems from committing suicide--at least that was the unstated conclusion. So they blame the primary system, the heavy black turnout organized by Gillum turning the more moderate favored white candidates into losers.

The Lamestream Media in Florida (the Tampa Bay Times) is trying to say the Andrew is polling ahead of Ron...yes, only if they are polling 95% liberal/Socialists and 5% morons.
