Mr. Trumps sidestepping of reports that the C.I.A. believes that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing as Maybe he did and maybe he didnt! was jarring. But every president since Harry Truman has aligned with unsavory Middle Eastern rulers in the service of national interests. The difference here is that Mr. Trump seemed unapologetic about this state of affairs with only a passing nod to the affront to our values that Mr. Khashoggis murder represents.
Thats nothing to cheer. But it is vitally important to evaluate the policy on its merits more than its mode of expression. And the truth is that on the big strategic questions, Mr. Trump is cleareyed and right.

Mr. Trumps critics counter with the claim that he is emboldening evil. Samantha Power, former ambassador to the United Nations, cited autocrats like Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt and Vladimir Putin of Russia, in addition to Prince Mohammed, in saying that Trumps siding with the meanest and nastiest out there will leave the world even nastier.

Notably absent from Ms. Powers list of evildoers, however, are Iran and its proxies. The omission is telling. As part of its pivot toward Iran and away from the Sunni states and Israel, the Obama administration turned a blind eye to the slaughter in Syria that Moscow, Tehran and its proxies unleashed, and, thanks to the nuclear deal, delivered countless billions to the Iranian war machine.
His critics would say that Mr. Trump is now similarly emboldening a reckless Saudi regime.
This is a false analogy. The Saudis are not the moral equivalents of Iranians and the Russians.

If I had lotsa money I’d have that poster printed out by the thousands and plastered all over the state !
I didn’t make it, but I sure do like it, and it’s sure as hell 100% on target.
“There Saudis were, are & will be our enemy. They funded 9/11, have funded and are funding Wahhabi Jihadists engaged in genocide against minorities including Christians in Iraq & Syria, and are building mosques and spreading Sharia law to the United States.”
“Were” is the key word. Prince Al-Waleed was responsible for most of that. A major Muslim Brotherhood sponsor, and billionaire.
Now he’s crippled. What happened? Simple. Jared Kushner came up with a plan, to work with MBS to kneecap the sharia-pushers. Al-Waleed (”Ala-Dickweed”) was running around pushing and funding Wahhabi based sharia crapola. MBS convinced the king to put him in charge, to start reforming SA and stop the SA funded sharia stuff. Kushner made friends with the guy; they are buddies now. Trump backed their plan. So does Israel and Egypt. Note the funding cutoff to the PA? That’s Kushner, too, part of the plan.
MBS had aladickweed arrested, took half his wealth (along with a dozen other rich sharia backers), and now dickweed is crippled.
It is going to take awhile for SA to reform. Probably several generations. But now, thanks to Kushner and MBS, SA is no longer spreading the Muslim Brotherhood insanity.
The Muslim Brotherhood has eyes, ears, and imbeds all through our fedgov and major media, like WaPo and NYT and CNN. And lots of money they spread around. This whole Kashoggi thing is being pushed by the Brotherhood and friends, like Turkey and Iran. And Obama, Brennan, Roades, valjar, etc. That’s why they want MBS gone. He’s too effective.
Don’t accidentally join them.
