The Longest-Serving Congressman In History Wants To Abolish The Senate

A man who served Congress for more than 59 years says he could fix its broken systems by completely abolishing the Senate.

John D. Dingell, who represented Michigan from 1955 to 2015 ― the longest anyone has ever served in Congress in America ― said in The Atlantic that he can’t stand watching good bills pass a “hyper-partisan House” and then be stymied by the Senate, which is disproportionately weighted by congresspeople in small states.

“With my own eyes, I’ve watched in horror and increasing anger as that imbalance in power has become the primary cause of our national legislative paralysis,” he wrote in an excerpt from his book The Dean: The Best Seat in the House.

“Twice in the past 18 years, we’ve seen the loser of the popular vote become president through the Electoral College formula, which gives that same disproportionate weight to small states, each of which gets two automatic votes for its two senators.”

I hope he doesn’t hold his breath waiting for the Senators to vote themselves out of power.

He wants to give us real democracy... good and hard (to paraphrase HL Mencken). All government reps would be proportional to population. Tyranny of the cities and political machines over the countryside.

“Dingy” hasn’t been right in the head for a long time. Same with his wife.

Republicans temporarily hold the Senate, so a senile democrat wants to permanently destroy the Senate.

Didn't we already do that with the 17th Amendment?

John Dingell your 59 years in Washington DC makes anything you say WORTHLESS.

The REAL PROBLEM is slimy politicians who stay too long like YOU.

Let’s compromise. Let’s abolish half the Senate. Start with California.

I believe that is the best evidence ever offered by the press as the congress working exactly as the Founders intended. Slow and deliberate......

If someone wants to get into a fixing-type situation, I wouldn’t have a problem with:

1. Mandating Congress and the Senate only meet for two periods of 90 days in the year.

2. Limiting each Supreme Court Justice to 8-to-10 year terms.

3. Limiting each House/Senate member to a max of 12-years of DC service.

4. Requiring tax returns of all House and Senate members to be public information a year after they are filed.

5. Eliminating the Senate from any budget acts.

6. Mandating no overseas travel for Congressman or Senators unless attending funerals.

7. Requiring anyone representing a state...to only rent while serving in DC.

8. Budgets will be passed by 1 July each year, or you shut down the government entirely with no fake extensions or four-week negotiation periods.

Yet another dumba$$ lib that either cannot read and has no interest in learning the historical reasons behind the constitution, has an IQ lower than my dog or just plain wants to change the rules to put the dems in power forever.

What a F###ing moron!
