The Inevitability of Impeachment

The Inevitability of Impeachment

Even Republicans may be deciding that the president has become too great a burden to their party or too great a danger to the country.

By Elizabeth Drew

Ms. Drew is a journalist based in Washington who covered Watergate.

Dec. 27, 2018

An impeachment process against President Trump now seems inescapable. Unless the president resigns, the pressure by the public on the Democratic leaders to begin an impeachment process next year will only increase. Too many people think in terms of stasis: How things are is how they will remain. They don’t take into account that opinion moves with events.

Whether or not there’s already enough evidence to impeach Mr. Trump — I think there is — we will learn what the special counsel, Robert Mueller, has found, even if his investigation is cut short. A significant number of Republican candidates didn’t want to run with Mr. Trump in the midterms, and the results of those elections didn’t exactly strengthen his standing within his party. His political status, weak for some time, is now hurtling downhill.

The midterms were followed by new revelations in criminal investigations of once-close advisers as well as new scandals involving Mr. Trump himself. The odor of personal corruption on the president’s part — perhaps affecting his foreign policy — grew stronger. Then the events of the past several days — the president’s precipitous decision to pull American troops out of Syria, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis’s abrupt resignation, the swoon in the stock market, the pointless shutdown of parts of the government — instilled a new sense of alarm among many Republicans.

“If I was Putin or Xi of China I would attack—America is so divided we would be a push over. What Liberal Jouranalist would support Trumps War?”

PDJT just made a perfectly timed visit to our troops in Iraq. Those priceless photos showing their unbridled support for the CoC are not only splitting heads in liberal la-la land here, they are causing big headaches for the hotheads in Moscow and Beijing.

Our military is firmly behind PDJT; the Russkis & ChiComs know this.

Remember the expression, “He could indict a ham sandwich”?

Grand jury indictments can get crazy as the defendant has no representation. That’s one reason grand jury sessions are supposed to be kept secret. Any nut can make any claim, and the wrongly accused can be stuck with reputational damage.

Impeachment is nothing more than a list of charges, comparable to a grand jury. The Senate trial is definitive. And it’s a Republican Senate deciding on whether high crimes and misdemeanors are at hand.

The Left reveals their mindset so often - they feel President Trump should be impeached for no legal reason - just have a dramatic show trial where mysterious “dangers” are bandied about.

Everyone she knows hates Trump. Therefore, everyone hates Trump.

She checked with all of her jerbilist friends, and they don't know ANYONE who would love to see her and her jerbilist friends displayed like the Christmas turkey in A Christmas Carol down at Uncle Benito's Esso station.

They think "high crimes and misdemeanors" are whatever they want to say they are. Letting foreigners stay in his hotel = emoluments, impeachable offense. And on and on.

The question is what is Mueller going to do. We know he hates Trump and was chosen to do whatever damage he can to Trump. Will his report be a blueprint for the Democrats to use in an impeachment proceeding? He may decide that is too much of a long shot (even if Pelosi can enforce near 100% obedience on the Democrats in the House to vote in favor of impeachment, getting 20 Republican Senators to vote for conviction seems out of the question). So my guess Mueller will fashion his report as something for the Democrats to use in the 2020 campaign.

That would mean the end of the Republican Party, and the start of a uncivil war.

I only vote Derpublican because Democrats put Democrat judges on the Federal courts.

If I can't get the Derps to do that simple thing, it's time to move beyond the ballot box.

".... They really believe there’s a long laundry list of reasons...."

Only in their minds. They never state what these reasons are.

They say Trump is a liar, a racist, a sexist, a blowhard, a xenophobe, a dictator, Hitler, not fit for office, yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah ad infinitum.

But none of these are impeachable offenses. Truth is, they're still bent that Trump won and their corrupt pantsuit hag sat on her fat arse and didn't win the last election.

They've got him now....in their own minds.

I don't doubt that they will try to nail him. But how far they can get is another story.

If they overstep their bounds, they could step on their own d*cks.

And the good news is I won’t lose 5 minutes of sleep concerning myself about it, for the “most” part they are scum and deserve whatever befalls them.

Not that I'm advocating violence, but 'journalists' in this country have transformed (for the most part) to collectivist propagandists with a huge bully pulpit. IMHO, propagandists deserve no quarter in public ridicule.

I guess in other countries public ridicule fails and violence ensues?

You’re probably right about fear and distrust. Consider a firearms owner with some problems to work out. Used to be he or she could talk things over with family and/or friends. Now, they are going to be afraid to open up to anyone for fear they will go running off to an ever-eager government who will disarm them indefinitely. The net result will not be getting firearms out of the hands of disturbed individuals. What they will get is an increase in people with unresolved issues. With or without firearms that’s not a good thing.

The frightening part is that they don’t understand that. They can’t help themselves. It is blood lust. It does not reason. It does not think critically. It only acts on emotion. When it becomes collective emotion, morphing into collective action, is when we’ll have the real problem...it’s coming.

Under the snitch laws now, a liberal neighbor or disgruntled relative is your worst enemy.

We can only hope that so many of these Red Flag denunciations will be about settling old scores that the po-po will throw up their hands.

What will control snitch law abuse is jacking up the penalty for perjury. IMO giving a false Red Flag statement to police amounts to perjury since it winds up before a judge.

But in CA that has been downgraded from a felony to a misdemeanor so it’s obvious the real goal is confiscation and not the averting of danger.

People with problems are already reluctant to seek professional help since they assume that all medical conditions go into a government database.

“Paranoid may mean crazy but it don’t mean stupid!”

Exactly, and now they are adding another huge dis-incentive for people to seek professional help.

So libs will control the house and without basis they will put the country through an impeachment after which the senate will not remove him.

This is leadership liberal style.
