P&G Challenges Men to Shave Their Toxic Masculinity in Gillette Ad
Wall Street Journal ^ | January 14, 2019 | Alexandra Bruell

Gillette addresses “toxic masculinity” in a new digital ad campaign aimed at men, the latest message from an advertiser attempting to change societal norms.

The ad, dubbed “We Believe,” opens with audio of news about the current #MeToo movement. A narrator then goes on to dispute the notion that “boys will be boys,” asking, “Is this the best a man can get? Is it? We can’t hide from it. It has been going on far too long. We can’t laugh it off, making the same old excuses.”

The ad puts a new spin on the brand’s 30-year tagline, “The Best A Man Can Get,” challenging men to take positive actions, such as stopping other men, and the next generation, from harassing women.

The ad will be hosted on Gillette’s YouTube page with paid digital and social support.

Gillette parent Procter & Gamble Co. is among companies that in recent years have used advertising as a platform to promote their stance on social issues such as gender equality, and polarizing political topics such as immigration and gun control. P&G is perhaps best known for its lauded “Like a Girl” ad campaign for feminine-care brand Always and “Stress test” for deodorant brand Secret.

The latest ad, created by Gillette’s ad agency Grey, is among the first to address the #MeToo movement head on, and to blatantly tell men to change their behavior.

“This is an important conversation happening, and as a company that encourages men to be their best, we feel compelled to both address it and take action of our own,” said Pankaj Bhalla, Gillette brand director for North America in an emailed statement.

I doubt that scolding men will encourage them to buy more from Gillette.

Sometimes advertising works too well.
Back in the day, they advertised Gillette Spoiler razor blades. I saw some at store, bought them, and when I tried to use them realized I didn’t even have a Gillette razor.

Gillette realizes that they will sell more razors if they can convince men to shave their chests and legs and turn into true wimps.

Maybe they can get some Catholic bishops to endorse the brand.

You are right. I will never by a Gillette product again.

"among the first to address the #MeToo movement head on, and to blatantly tell men to change their behavior." That must mean primarily Democrat men:

The pressure to shave chests, etc, started when my son was in high school. His friends were doing the shaving and I asked him to not pay attention. There is nothing more sexy than a man with a furry chest. Burt Reynolds made a good living with his looks.....men still take their shirts off in movies and on TV.......I say leave it alone men! Women like you just as you are! This ‘trend’ only emasculates the men who buy into it.

I used to work for Procter and Gamble. They were a global powerhouse that was known for their four M’s - Male, Military,Midwest, and Married. That was their idea of a stable strong employee. What did those four M’s do? They built a small soap-making operation into one of the largest consumer products companies in the world.

It is not like that now. Completely taken over by diversity whistle blowers and liberal women. I left with a nice severance package and never looked back.

“if they can convince men to shave their chests and legs and turn into true wimps”

Swimmer’s and bicyclists already do this... Championship bodybuilders... Who knows who else... it’s kind of common. I Used to know guys in high school who would shave their ankles and calves because they taped up everyday and it was easier just to shave rather than rip out the hairs pulling the medical tape off after every practice and game.

Heck, after years of wearing socks I don’t have any hair left on my ankles or feet... all that poly-fiber sock material pulled it all off and wore it out and it ain’t coming back!

Gillette’s new ad strategy.

“You’re horrible and evil. Buy our stuff!”

Pretty sure insulting potential buyers does not translate into more sales, but virtue signaling seems to be more important nowadays, even at the expense of a companies bottom line.

"It has been going on far too long. We can’t laugh it off, making the same old excuses."

Tell it, brother! It's true! Leftist politicians, Hollyweird actors, and news media brass are creeps in their private lives. That's why they support "access to safe, legal abortion" in their public lives.

Maybe people need to just be less “toxic”

Be kind, one to another, Tenderhearted, Forgiving one another
Is not just a helpful suggestion
Ephesians 4:32

Do Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly is God's Law
Micah 6:8

Women are just as bad at breaking these rules,
just differently, pointing out someone Else's weaknesses
without fixing your own is a high level error however
