Empire actor Jussie Smollett has been charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report about an attack he said occurred as he walked to his apartment building in Streeterville last month.
The charge, a felony, was announced by the Cook County states attorneys office Wednesday evening, hours after police called Smollett a suspect in a criminal investigation for filing a false police report.
Earlier in the day, attorneys for Smollett, 36, met with prosecutors and detectives but it was unclear if the actor was present, according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. The lawyers, Todd Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, could not be reached for comment. They have been joined by high-profile, Los Angeles-based lawyer Mark Geragos who has represented numerous celebrities, including pop star Michael Jackson, R&B singer Chris Brown and actress Winona Ryder.
On Tuesday, two brothers who had been under arrest in the case appeared at the criminal courthouse, also to talk to prosecutors and detectives, authorities said. They and their attorney, Gloria Schmidt, were seen near the grand jury rooms Tuesday afternoon, but police said they did not appear before a grand jury.

Felony disorderly conduct? Is that a joke?
WHAT????????????????????????? This is ridiculous!
White Bronco time?
There may have been a stage during all of this Square disorderly conduct might have flown. I don’t think it will now
Jussie don’t do that again (hand slap)
never mind all the expense of investigating etc etc
Well, if it’s a felony, perhaps they have a reason for handling it this way.
Sure seems to be a strange way of addressing the issue to avoid the gravity of his crime though.
I’m not a legal expert though, so it may make more sense than it seems to, to me.
What a crock.
And there you have it. No time. Like a parking ticket?
I predicted “disorderly conduct” charges a week ago.
such faggotry from the popo and drama queen.
At the very least, he should get the “Real Men of Genius” award for 2019 for hiring two black guys to stage a “hate crime” on a black guy.
According to Illinois Statute, disorderly conduct occurs when a person knowingly: ... Transmits a threat of destruction of violence, death or bodily harm to a school building or persons at a schoolClass 4 felony. Transmits a knowingly false report of a criminal offense to a police officerClass 4 felony.Nov 17, 2015
are they accusing him of being drunk while faking the story I’m confused
Collect his dna while booking and check the hate letters to see if he needs a federal charge for mail fruad, too.
What about the white powder?
Conspiracy? Fraud? Racially motivated hate crime?
Smollett was freaking happy to put two innocent white men in prison for a long time with no life available after release.
Jail: Jail time for a conviction of disorderly conduct is typically short, though state laws can allow for up to a year for a misdemeanor conviction. While many disorderly conduct convictions involve no jail time, especially for first-time offenders, courts often suspend a jail sentence or order a person to time served, meaning the jail sentence is satisfied by the time the person already spent in jail after the initial arrest. For repeat offenders or more serious instances of disorderly conduct, short jail terms of several days, weeks, or even months are possible. Felony convictions bring with them the possibility of a year or more in state prison.]
