Its always good policy to wait a bit on the jumping to conclusions part of the argument. But investigations are always careful and long. The airlines who are grounding these planes are correct in my opinion as a safety engineer. The coincidence is always something that a problem investigation team has to explain and flying planes while they are studying does not make good sense.

“The 737 MAX gained FAA certification on March 8, 2017”

Two crashes in two years looks horrible.

Particularly when both were so soon after takeoff.

I’ll bet that by Wednesday that most of the world’s 737 Max will be grounded. Can you imagine the liability an airline has if they fly it despite several airlines grounding theirs after to similar fatal crashes?

The problem is engineers say it ought to work even when in reality it doesn’t

So, over one-third of 350+ Boeing 737 Max are now grounded.

American took some REFURBISHED 737s out of service because of the refit on the overhead bins.

reading is important. understanding is more important.

The planes are safe.

Two crashes of BRAND NEW planes, a few months apart, both in the climb-out phase, both suffered rapid increases and decreases of altitude. Both in tropical / equatorial regions. Too many similarities between the crashes.

You call that SAFE?

Two crap Muslim airlines with poor safety records. I call 737Max (or any other airframe), problems there expected

I never heard of Gibbs’ Rule #39 but I say this quite often. I don’t believe in coincidence. There are only causes and effect. Everything has a reason is the starting premise.

Thank you for proving there are many FReepers who are ignorant, but still post.

At one time, FR was a place where those knowledgeable on a subject would help others understand events.

Today, on this subject, there is rampant ignorance, elitism and mindless platitudes.

Here are some FACTS:

Ethiopean Airlines is one of the finest in the world. The statements by those against the company demonstrate ignorance and broad brushing rather than treating everyone and everything as individuals.

Boeing had the entire fleet of 787s grounded due to the lithium batteries that could catch fire. They are not immune to design defects.

FACT: The 737 Max has been behind schedule, mostly due to the new engines. There are hundreds of planes parked without engines because CFM had a few problems with early versions of the Leap engines.

FACT: The Lion Air investigation is not complete. But the pilots union criticized Boeing for not disclosing some of the safety information on the new aircraft. Additionally, there is a lack of simulators to train pilots for special situations specific to this type

FACT: China benefits from 737 Max production and has no interest in hurting its own economy.

Ethiopian Airlines — three fatal events, one of them a hijacking, in over seventy years of operation — is exceptional. Ethiopian is one of the proudest and arguably one of the safest airlines in the world.

The Chinese don’t mess around. No use taking risks until the causes of the failures can be identified and rectified.
