If you're 16 in this country, you can drive, get a job and pay taxes — even marry or buy a gun, in some states. But you can't vote in national elections.
Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley is trying to change that.
The freshman lawmaker introduced her first amendment in Congress Tuesday. It's a proposal to lower the national voting age from 18 to 16.
Pressley's amendment is being added to a sweeping, election-reform bill in the House of Representatives. That bill is in the hands of the House Rules Committee, chaired by Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern.
And in Boston, city councilors introduced their own measure Wednesday — which would lower the voting age...

How about we tie the voting age to the age to purchase a rifle or a handgun.
16 year olds aren’t nearly as mature nor harbor half the responsibility as 16 year olds did 30, 40, 50, or 100 years ago.
but you have to be 21 to drink or own a handgun.
So the Wild In The Streets kid was mature enough?

AOC is the reason lowering the voting age to 16 IS NOT a good idea!

I propose that only Americans that contribute to society by paying more in taxes then they receive in benefits be allowed to vote. Then I don’t care what age they are. However Social Security retirement benefits should be counted as income for the purposes of this calculation because it was earned in advance.
Why not 10? Then can passively read by then and vote for whoever their teachers tell them to vote for. /sarc
12 to hav an abortion without parental consent
16 to vote
17 to drive
17 to join the military
18 to smoke/buy a Playboy
19 to play the lottery/go in to strip club
21 to drink
Up to 25 “child” on parent’s insurance
I don’t understand why the kids are confused.
Surely they realize by now their entire existence is measured in terms of their usefulness to the adults around them....
You could require completion of military or national service as a prerequisite, like in Heinlein’s Starship Trooper.
And war veterans should receive a lifetime qualification to vote.
With all the high school propaganda; that plan to destroy America by Democrats taking over could just work!
And she wants to make election day a day off from middle school so her constituents can vote.

Where is it allowd to buy a gun in the US if you are 16?
