FRANKFORT, Ky. Kentucky's education commissioner wants the name of every teacher who used a sick day to force 10 school districts to close so educators could protest at the state legislature.
At least 10 Kentucky school districts were forced to close several times since Feb. 28 after so many teachers used their sick days that officials could not find enough substitutes to cover classes.
Jefferson County Public Schools, one of the country's largest districts with more than 98,000 students, has closed six times in two weeks as hundreds of teachers packed the state Capitol to protest several proposals that impacted the pension system and education funding.
The protests are part of a wave of teacher activism across the country that began last year in West Virginia and quickly spread to other states, including Oklahoma and Arizona. This year, teachers in Los Angeles and Oakland, California, went on strike.

"The Kentucky Department of Education takes the closing of schools very seriously," Lewis said. "While it is important that administrators, teachers and students make their voices heard about issues related to public education policy, advocacy should under no circumstances be putting a stop to learning for entire communities."

I'm not entirely sure that it was...
gee, it would be a shame to put those teachers on notice... /s
Time to privatize ALL public schools and outlaw public sector unions.
but its all "for the children" all that money and days off and entire summers and the pensions....
Children are the last thing this big public ed racket cares about.
Very simple...
Any teacher who called out sick without a doctors note....or office receipts for payment....
Don’t pay them....
Do what Reagan did to the air traffic controllers. Fire them. Decertify them.
Went to the capital to protest PENSION CUTS. We the People paid for their ‘sick days’ AND their substitutes AND their pensions, which very few of us have. Isn’t that just dandy. Good for this Gov.
Most “teachers” are just foot soldiers for Socialism. I always cringe when friends/family try to make them out as some kind of saints.
honestly I know of only one or two teachers that love their work and never want to quit.....I can't even include my sister in that small group.....

Translation: We dont get state/Fed money. Butt in seat=money.
With virtually every problem in America being taken seriously by some authoritative spokesperson, why do we have problems that never go away?
Sounds like learning may have accelerated on those days, instead of being curtailed. Looking at the reason for the “sick days”, I’d say the only thing “sick” about this is if they get paid for those days. Teacher’s unions need to be abolished as well as any other unions where the members are taxpayer funded.
Absolutely.
So how come so few Freepers seem to be in favor of this?
We whine about the Dems and GOPe and socialism, and then support the system which produces the voters which puts these same idiots in power.
We wouldn’t be in the cultural crisis we’re in now were it not for unrepentant anti-American/anti-Christian leftist brainwashing via Big Ed (public schools and colleges). This filth should’ve been cleaned out over 50 years ago and on a routine basis ever since. Most people in the teaching profession today aren’t fit to babysit rats.
I fear Matt is going to re-elextion because of this. Some RINO has already filed to primary him.
I don’t think you ever hear of a home school teacher going on strike, I wonder why /s
“Criminal conspiracy to commit fraud”
“Unsworn falsification”
“Larceny”
This could get interesting!
The originator of the teachers national protests (and the red shirts they wore) is an avowed “socialist” (i.e. communist) with some weird name.
However he did a great job of organizing them. He’s dangerous.
I hope the schools are closed for sports and other activities during these sick outs.....no school, no sports....
Indeed. And he's only like 25!
