A major Greenland glacier that was one of the fastest shrinking ice and snow masses on Earth is growing again, a new NASA study finds.
The Jakobshavn (YA-cob-shawv-en) glacier around 2012 was retreating about 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) and thinning nearly 130 feet (almost 40 meters) annually. But it started growing again at about the same rate in the past two years, according to a study in Monday’s Nature Geoscience. Study authors and outside scientists think this is temporary.

The last glacial period of the Pleistocene ended about 11,700 years ago. The warming that caused the disappearance of the Continental Glaciers has continued since then, with occasional short cooling period. The Earth is warming, but for short periods like the so called “Little Ice Age” and in certain geographical areas, cooling may occur. Human activity may have had some effect in recent years, or not, it’s impossible to say to what degree humans have played a role.

Just why is Greenland named Greenland......because it was once a GREENLAND.....we nave cooled to the point that a once green country is now covered with ice....
I flew over Greenland a few years ago. It has lots of ice.
