DeWine preparing ‘red flag’ proposal to remove guns from some

A frustrated John Kasich couldn’t persuade lawmakers last session to pass a “red flag” law allowing a judge to temporarily order the seizure of weapons from a gun owner suspected of being a threat to themselves or others.

Now, his successor, Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, is working on a similar measure for submission to the GOP-dominated General Assembly, which refused last year to move on measures proposed by Kasich aimed at reducing gun violence.

DeWine spoke on Monday morning about his concern over the spate of recent shootings at houses of worship, including the fatal Passover shooting at a California synagogue on Saturday.

“I am deeply concerned about what we are seeing in this country in regard to attacks on houses of worship,” DeWine said, unprompted by reporters’ questions. “This is something that has to be deplored, I deplore, it’s sickening. People who go to worship ... certainly have the right to believe they are going to be safe.”

Asked if he would seek a “red flag” law, the governor responded, “I have asked my team to work on that ... trying to get a ‘red flag’ law that can pass. That’s my goal.”

I really do not understand how this is constitutional. Can you imagine this in any other context? Like a neighbor says you're a drunk driver and a threat to others on the road, and a judge takes away your car for 365 days unless you can prove you're not a threat?

After this comes the pre-emptive thought crimes - where they ban you from the internet or work, pre-emptively for hate speech among your family.

“I really do not understand how this is constitutional.”

We proved we didn’t care when they passed the Patriot Act. It’s globalism and this guy is getting paid somehow.

RKBA organizations need to nip this in the bud.

I believe a similar Bill passed recently in Colorado. And it’s an ‘open carry’ state.

Well, if they are “suspected of being a threat,” then why not incarcerate them?

Based on “suspected”.

“”red flag” law allowing a judge to temporarily order the seizure of weapons from a gun owner suspected of being a threat to themselves or others.””

Must pass a law. Gotta pass a law. Let’s pass a law.

Those people whose guns they want to seize will no doubt step right up and say, “ I believe you mean me - here, please take my guns.”

Nothing more dangerous than a politician with a bright idea!

So far not a single proposed or passed red flag law has protected the due process rights of the accused.

DeWine spoke on Monday morning about his concern over the spate of recent shootings at houses of worship...

Which of them would have been prevented by a "red flag" law?

A "soft target" is just that...

Perhaps in the many Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, places of worship and gathering....there must be knowledgeable CC licensed members that could help make places of worship less soft, as in target.
